Hello,

I have just found out that I have an anal fissure. Been prescibed GTN cream and if all else fails have to be referred for surgery.

Just wondered if anyone else is or has suffered and if they could let me know how they got on.

Thanks x

I've experienced this and it was very, very sore. I had one when I was a lot younger and was given suppositories which helped. I then got them again a year or so ago and was given the GTN cream (although it gave me chronix headaches (side effect)). The cream works but my advice would be o be careful what you eat. Steer clear of scratchy foods such as popcorn and if you can't, just make sure you chew your food until it is liquid. That will help! Also... get yourself some Lactulose syrup Smiler

Hi Deborah thanks for that. Well I have been using the gtn for 4 weeks now and it is getting better but still not fully cleared up. Could defo do with some lactulose, is it only available on prescription?
How long did yours take to clear up?

Hi, I had the same problem when I was a child and it gave me a bit of trouble after 3rd child.I was given the gtn cream and got headaches too...try explaining that to your friends! Lactulose is good and available over the counter but it gives you terrible wind! Try fresh squeezed orange juice or a few sugar free sweets. They help in a fairly gentle way.

With the GTN it was cleared in a few days. Didn't take long at all. Lactulose is around £4 for a massive bottle over the counter in Boots. It really helps a lot (I didn't have any issues with wind when taking it).

Hi Musswells thanks for that. I only have the one lot of cream and I have to say it does feel better than just after I had Ellie. I wish I had have gone to the docs sooner but I was merrily using Anusol thinking it was piles!! So it wasn't diagnosed until she was 2 months.
I know the feeling about not daring to go, but its relief after isn't it hehe!!!

xx
