I have been doing some research on this so might be able to help. Viagra is a member of a group of drugs called PDE-5 inhibitors and these are oral tablets taken to help induce and erection in men. There are 3 main drugs, Viagra, Cialis and Levitra and they all have different benefits. Levitra for example works in as little as 10 minutes so you can be spontaneous. Cialis stays in your body all weekend to help you get and erection when the moment arises. Depending on the severity of the erectile dysfunction the tablets work on 90% of men. They are not aphrodisiacs or stimulants, you need to be aroused but often the idea of what is about to happen will of course, heighten the mood. There are a few resources on the net you might like to try - www.sortedin10.co.uk offers info on how to deal with ED and what treatments are available. www.levitra.com gives a better description of how the drug works.
Hope this helps.

Sildenafil (active ingredient in Viagra) alters the body's response to sexual stimulation by enhancing the effect of the nitric oxide, a chemical that is normally released during stimulation. Nitric oxide causes relaxation of the muscles in the penis, which allows for better blood flow to the penile area.
