I play basketball and we are currently out of season, so we train for 2 hours every Sunday. I also use the gym once or twice a week. Recently my left knee and now my left hip have begun to really ache and can get really painful after any exercise. They now hurt for two or three days after exercise even from walking around. I know basketball puts a lot of impact on your joints, but I haven't done anything strenuous and I don't over do it at the gym. In our last session nobody turned up so I practiced jump shots and lay-ups and found that my whole left leg hurts all the way through from hip to ankle. I am also uncomfortable in my right leg. I have rested it for a week at a time but as soon as I exercise it comes straight back. It feels as if I have fallen from a great height and landed on my feet. Does anyone know what this is and what I can do about it?
Weight isn't the problem for me - although you're not the first person to suggest it!
I'm 6'3" and weigh 12 stone 9 pounds.
On the advice of a friend I have been doing cycling in between training. This stengthens your knee muscles without the impact. It seems to have worked.
