There are a couple of things you can try, my lo used to get really bad constipation, when she was tiny like your's sugar water used to work really well. I mixed 2oz of cooled boiled water with 1/2tsp sugar (i think you are supposed to use brown, but i used white and that worked fine!). You an also use fruit juice and water but im not sure of the quantities of that one. My Lo's constipation continued so she was put onto Lactulose which worked fantastically and wasnt considered to be medication although it was prescribed by the dr. (its just a strong sugar solution). So id take him bak to the dr's if you get no joy from trying other things. The other things are to massage his tummy, nice warm baths, moving his legs in a motion similar to bike riding and also a little vaseline round his bum to help it come out a bit easier! Hope you get some joy soon!

p.s. forgot to say, i could be wrong, but i think that sma gold is quite well known for causing constipation - although many people use it on their babys and they are fine, i suppose its just down to the individual!

Hiya, Didn't really have the problem myself (until now, my little one is 6 months!), but I do know of a few friends that did, and I know that they were advised to give their bubbas a few sips of cooled boiled water (something I will trying today for the first time as weaning has had the same effect on my little Bea!), and it seemed to do the trick fairly quickly. As Katherine says I think SMA Gold can do this sometimes (not saying other brands don't!) and the water just helps to shift any build up of residue from the milk. I used Aptamil on a friends recommendation and found it brilliant! Hope you get it sorted! Dipps x x

Hi, I had this problem a lot with ds3 due to his vomiting from reflux. It maybe that it is his body getting used to the milkI would try some plain boiled water to start, if that doesn't help then you could try a little prune juce in with the water, I was advised not to give fruit juice as it is very acidic. The good thing about the prune juce is you can give as much or as little as needed there are no set rules just start with a small amount and build up. As for the milk I would try and avoid changing as this will happen with any milk you try, some more than others, but it will sort it's self out within a few days. Hope this helps, I am sure he will be fine in no time. Jayjay

My DD had bad constipation from a few days old and she was on SMA Gold. We stuck it out for about a week and then the HV and midwives advised us to change to another milk powder as for some reason sma changed their formula and it now appears loads of babies have this problem. We use aptamil and up until we started her on solids she was loads better. Prune juice diluted in water is also another good one to try and it seems to clear them out the day after. We ended up getting some lactulose from the docs too as she was so bad and we still use it occasionally now so i would suggest trying a different powder like aptamil and the other tips people have said. Aptamil is closest to breastmilk so tends not to clog them up as much. Hope this helps Rhi xxx
