I saw a thing on the tv yesterday about reusable nappies and I have decided to go for it and use them (I bought a sample pack but it was no good). So can a mummy or someone who uses them for their baby tell me exactly
1. what I need pads, inserts, covers???
2. where to get them for my 11 weeks old baby girl
3. how many I need - what colours are practical

Thanks

Hiya,

I've just recently switched to reusables with my 9 week old and i'm really pleased with them!

I used the contact an advisor form on this site and someone came round to my house with a whole shed load of nappies and went through all the options with me:

http://www.teamlollipop.co.uk/

Also, I am a member of another forum which has a lot of very qualified people who have been using resuables for years who offer advice, I recommend joining, we are a lovely lot!

http://www.mumsonline.net/forums/f34-cloth-nappies.html

I'm happy to answer any questions you have, i'm obviously not an expert but i'm certainly an enthusiast! My msn is whatajip@hotmail.com.

My favourite at the moment purely for ease of use are Tots Bots nappies, they are a shaped nappy with an attached booster than need a seperate waterproof wrap. I use a washable fleece liner in them to collect the poop, you can use flushable paper ones as well if you dont want to be dealing with the mess lol. If your baby sleeps a long time at night it can be helpful to have seperate boosters to add extra absorbancy.

You can also get all in one nappies that dont require a seperate wrap, or you can use good old fashioned terrys, the choice is endless!

I definately recommend contacting a Team Lollipop advisor though as they were supremely helpful to me when I was struggling with all the different kinds.

Hope this helps

Gemma xx

Thanks for that, I'll contact an adviser to come see me. I had thought about the traditional terry one's but reusables have progressed and improved so I want my baby to be comfortable too.

Hi I have used them on my 2 year old and my newborn. I use fuzzi bunz and they are great, come in a range of colours and sizes. you need inserts for them and I use nappy liners and a wrap for extra protection. I got them from here.

www.babykind.co.uk

They are very helpful I have bought loads from them over time. x

Oo Aly, well done on decided to go down the reusable route. I use them on my 6.5 month old little girl and love them. Even dh goes evangelical about them!

There are so many different types of nappy and everyone has their own favourites (mine are currently Minki nappies and Swaddlebees).

My best advice would be to go to The BabyCentre chat forum for cloth nappies (similar to Gemma's MumsOnline I would guess - we're also a friendly and helpful bunch!). Link:
http://boards.babycentre.co.uk/n/pfx/forum.aspx?_reques...btag=bcUKClthNappies

If you visit www.thenappylady.co.uk they have a survey to complete for advice on the best nappies for your situation (budget, drying capabilities, preferences on type - 1 piece, 2 piece, pocket, stuffable etc).

I would also say don't buy a big load of any one type of nappy to start with. A lot of the nappy websites do trial packs with different kinds of nappies. Try some on your baby girl and one shape that suits one baby may be totally wrong for another. The Nappy Lady and Ebay both sell second hand nappies. Buy a few from there to try out. You can always sell on the ones that don't suit or that you don't like - 2nd hand nappies hold their value fairly well.

As for colours, well it'll depend on the type of nappy you get but basically anything goes. I have cow print, sheep, cats, blue, pink flowers, pink gingham, lavender, white, red, coral, etc etc etc. Paler ones may stain (even when clean) over the winter months, but a couple of hours out on the line makes them shine bright white once more!

I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have. Email me on Pelepeg at hotmail dot com

Cheers
Pele. [8D]
