I'm a single mum of a little 2 year old, I live in London. If I want to go out in the evenings, occassionaly my mum can help out. I'm greatful for what she's done, but she's been able to help me less and less as late.

Please can anyone give advise on safe ways to find an evening baby sitter? Where should I find one? Should they be CRB checked?... Help!!

Thanks for reading. x

not too sure but maybe speak to the local surestart or nct as they may recommend also netmums could be a good place.
our local council have a family section and you can ask them for advice on nurseries etc and lists of nurseries or childminders not too sure about babysitters. I think id prefer someone who is qualified in childcare etc though.

just a quickie - we have very little family around us too so babysitters are a problem for us. Our DD goes to nursery and we've used one of the girls from there on the odd occasion, as DD knows her and she's lovely. Does your wee one go to nursery - that might be an option?

Being CRB checked means very little though, so I would go for someone that you know, that you trust, that has experience in looking after children, before just plumping for someone as they have a CRB check.

hi there i agree with the crb, if you could get someone who is then that is good but some qualification in childcare would be a comfort to you too.
mabe if you could find as loocy said a nursery nurse from a nursery if your child attends one? i am a nursery nurse and a few ghirls would do it, but its also good to build up trust, mabe someone who your child has really taken to.

im sure sure start would be able to help you out tho there must be lkoads of people in your position. good luck! x

Thank you all for your advice! I found a list of evening sitters. I'm still yet to contact them, but will do when things get desperate most likely. LOL Thanks again xx

A babysitter need not be CRB checked, but it is an added advantage if they are. A childcare agency according to me is the safest way of hiring childcare for kids. I generally hire a babysitter for my kids through an agency. Maybe you could try one out. Bye

Hi
My friend childminds during the day and is registered with a sitting company for when she can.
She is a mum herself, she works and is checked and approved for her work and using an agent you could request a prefered sitter giving a chance for your child to be familiar with the same person.
Obviously there are criteria the staff need to meet, and when family are not available it would be my only choice.
Good luck in finding the right sitter!

Instead of an evening babysitter, maybe you could use a part time nanny or get into a nanny share. I am into a nanny share and have a nanny come in for 3 hrs every evening. I used Nanny Share to find a family close by to share a nanny with me.

I can help zou with the regular rate. I have a teenage babysitter that I pay with 5£ per hour. She takes care of two children of my, 3 and 5 years, and she’s satisfied and do the job very well. So, I think this is the right price. Good luck!

It is a good thing if the childcare you employ to care for your child is CRB checked. Maybe you could try Tinies.com, they have a lot of temporary and permanent childcare arrangements. I have used them and they were able to provide me with a good nanny. You could also try Nannyshare.co.uk, and share a nanny with a family living near you. Hope this helps. All the best
