Hello Everyone

Well, our very contented baby has had a bad 24 hours!!! I think he is suffering from Colic! I assumed that if babies are going to have colic they get it straight away at birth - then I read on the net that it can start from 2 weeks!!! Frowner Its miserable seeing him in discomfort. We had the WORST night ever last night - he woke at least every hour - if not every half an hour! It then took forever to get him back to sleep Frowner Poor darling.
We have tried some Infacol which appeared to help a little. His face is SOOOO cute when you put it in his mouth - he seems so surprised at the orangey taste! Bless.

Does anyone have any other ideas?? I am so tired and now scared silly that this is going to be how it is for the next three months!!!!

Hope you are all well
I am so pleased Maira found us over here! Smiler
Emma - sounds like you are having a good time of it with sleep Smiler

Hello to everyone else!

Catch up soon!
I hope some one has some good tips or techniques to help our baby Tommy x x x

Love Emily x x

hiya everyone, i hope you and your babies are all ok. katys a little star. she was underweight though on wed when she was weighed. she was 7lb 1 1/2oz at birth and when she was weighed on wed she had dropped to 6lb 11 1/2oz so she had lost 6oz. im still bf but the midwife/ health visitor has said that really coz shes 2 weeks old (today) she should be back up to her birth weight, and i might have to go to formula to help her put on weight. other than that shes a little darlin, sometimes a bit grizzly in evening, for 10 mins to 2hrs. we had to bath her at 10pm last night to help her to settle.(it does work, just about half an hour to an hour after youve bathed her) but shes still never sick, and burpes herself, so half the time she dont need windin.
now onto me. ive been told off all week as i havent really ate a great deal and lost over 2 1/2 stone since i had her 2 weeks ago. i did have flebitus (sp?)in the calfs, where its inflamation of the veins in the calf muscles, painful but tolerable.
mw still coming round on visits up until im back to full health and katys weight increases. i thought i was doing really well with the bf but the trouble is, is that no one knows how much shes getting.with formula they do. and i cant keep expressing in between feeds as it nicks her milk for the next feed. i wanted to try and bf for at least 3 weeks, and then see how it went, but unless katy puts on weight, i think the choice has been made for me.
never mind.

Emily, Ellie had colic from 2 weeks old and it was a complete nightmare. We tried colief which worked a treat as infacol didn't work for her either.

Hope this helps, don't worry hun you will get through and then you will be sitting there 9 months down the line wonder where the times gone!

Vicky
Thank you for your advice!
I will be off to Boots in the morning to buy some and an expresser to enable me to give it to him!

I will let you know how it goes!

I know you are right that in 9 months time the difficult first few months will be forgotten - but at the moment I just feel like sitting in the corner and crying!!!

Hey ho!

Thank you again for your advice

Love Emily x x

Hi Emily, I remember thinking exactly the same thing when she was 2 weeks old, sat there in bed thinking my god its going to take ages to get to 12 weeks! It was awful she just wouldn't settle between 7-11pm and as you can imagine when youve been up all day and 1/2 the night its the last thing you need.

It is quite expensive but it definately worked for her and at 10 weeks I tried weaning her off it and she so wasn't ready so I waited until 12-13 weeks and she was fine then.

Hope it works x x

Oh Emily, I do hope the colief works for Tom, and that last night was better than yesterday! Fingers crossed.x

Maria, good that you found us, we hadn't abandoned you! You seem to be coping so well with the twins and having other children. I find it a struggle just with 2 sometimes. Will check MSN for your pictures.

Meg, nice to read your birth story, doesn't sound too gruesome. Are you and Samuel keeping well??

Little, have you decided to go to forumla completely or just use it as a top up? Maybe that huge weight loss has effected your milk?

Anna, Tigger, Laurie and Emma I hope you are all ok too.

Well me...we had a lovely day out yesterday ont he moors by a river. We had Daniel in one of those little half tent things. He loved being outside in the fresh air and Emily spent all her time in the river. I caught a few rays and now look more normal rather than the 'washed out' effect of recent! DH and I went out for something to eat yesterday evening, but didn't stay out too long as we were so tired.
My mum and dad are on holiday at the mo, so lost my daytime help there! Luckily my sister has 2 weeks off and babysat last night.
Well Daniel is 1 month old today and DH's mum has still not come to see him...her loss. But I think deep down DH is really upset that no one from his side of the family has seen him yet.
I had Daniel weighed on Friday and he is a healthy 8lb 4oz. By the way did anyone see that baby in the paper that weighed 14lb ...ouch!

Must go as normal loads to do, a womans work is never done....

Hi Little

I just popped on and saw your post. My baby (3rd) kept loosing weight too he is fine now, but if you do formula now at 2 weeks, it can affect your milk supply, as its supply and demand, the milk is produced as she uses it, if you then give a formla feed instead, then your milk will be less and you could get very engorged and sore. I hope I dont sound like a cow cos I assure you that is not the plan at all, just want to help you babe. I breast fed all 3 of mine and had problems so hope to help others if I can. You need to eat woman lol, you are eating for 2 you know and she will take all your good stuff, so you need to eat better and she will benefit. Please dont let anyone bully you to do formula too unless you really have to, breast feeding is such a lovely bond if you can do it, I miss it I really do Frowner

Good luck babe

Good luck to all of you, hope you did not mind me posting on your thread.

Love Lorraine. xx

thankyou hun, i do appreciate you comin on here to help me out. people are bullying me it seems to go onto formula. im so proud of myself for stickin at bf this long, and i always said i would do 3 weeks and see how i feel after 3 weeks, but its making me feel guilty by her losing weight coz i dont know how much shes getting. its alright people saying oh express it and then you can see. but i cant express it till it comes out of my ears, or i will be nickin her food for her next feed. im glad someone understands and i dont feel on my own anymore. we will see what the health visitor has to say tomorrow. as shes being weighed again. thankyou hun xx

I am about whenever you need me babe, son't hesitate to contact me ok!

I fully understand and even though I think its up to the mum if they want to breast feed or not, I am fully here to help anyone who wantsto breast feed. Some find it easy, others not and some give up as they can't do it and can't get any help! My health visitor was telling me I should put Kieran onto formula and I stood my ground and said NO I finally gave up when he was 9 months old as I had some boob problems lol which they could not seem to treat and I could not cope with it anymore.

If you want to stick with the feeding, don't let them bully you into giving formula! If you eat well, you will produce all the baby needs, you are doing so well, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. xx

Little, you must do whatever is best for you, a happy mummy normally means a happy baby. With Emily I had to give her a top up formula because she was at one stage only just over 4lb and I then continued because she didn't grow fast! However when she had her formula (given by daddy) I expressed to make sure my milk supply was still ok.

Remember everyone is different and like Lorraine said don't be bullied into doing something you don't want to do. Have a chat with the HV, at the end of the day Katy is your top priority.

xx

Hi mums and babies hope you are ok.

Hi Helen, samuel and i are doing really well he is such a contented baby.Hope you are ok too

Emily, sorry to hear about little Tom, my neice had colic when she was a baby and it was horrible to see her cry. I hope it settles down soon for him x

Hi to everyone else

Samuel is doing really well he now weighs 8lb 15oz. I dont know i have got him he is a proper little snoozer between his feeds !! I cant believe how much his features are changing in just a few days, he is such a cutie pie. The midwife discharged us on saturday and i have to admit it was quite emotional, she has been the lovliest midwife so kind and caring i will miss our appointments. She looked like she had a little tear in her eye too when she said goodbye to samuel and i. Awwwwww.

Anyway must dash little man is due his feed, speak soon

well, kinda bad news, but good in a way. had to put katy on formula, as the health visitor came today and said that katy looked like she'd put on weight but the scales will tell all. she put her on the scales and she had lost another 2oz! so shes down to 6lb 9oz now at 16days old and her birth weight was 7lb 1oz, so i said in the middle of last week that if she had lost anymore weight, or not put a substantial amount on, then it would have to be formula. she had her first formula at 3pm and the difference is amazing, she has slept all the way through, and we even had to wake her up to give her a feed at 5pm (the health visitor said try her every 2 hours at first to make up the weight) will we have a grizzle at 8-12 or not, or has grizzle time stopped for good? at least i can get a bloody good nigts sleep, and have a drink!!
