Hello all My name is Donna I have a son who is 16months old well just over called Tyler.
I took my son to an emergencie doctor a few nights ago because we now know he has a chest infection. The thing is when she was writting his prescription she mad a comment about his weight, she said not to worrying if he is off his milk as he is a bit heavy anyway!(she didnt even weigh him) Well it wasnt until we came out that I talked to my husband & I relised what she had said. My son has always been just above the "NORMAL"line(I hate that word)in his red book but a few weeks ago I got him weighed with a health visitor and he is now 28lb.
Which she seemed to think was fine as she didnt say anything about it. So im now worrying that maybe he is overweight and wondered if anyone has any advice.

Hi Donna, I have a 2 yr old girl who was born 5lb10. She has always been "solid" and I have been advised by doctors during her ilnesses not to fret if she's off her food as she is above her weight line on her chart. As she has become more active she is as healthy as ever and evened out in respect of her height and weight. Take comfort in the fact that you have nurtured such a healthy young man who will soon be telling you exactly what he likes to eat and when (bless!) Paula

Hi donna - I wouldn't worry about it

my first son was 28 lbs at 23 months and my second was 27lbs at exactly one year!!! A pound difference in a year gap! Now they are both tall but neither are overweight. The eldest eats non stop from morning till night whilst the youngest isn't so hungry.

My second was so tubby around his bottom and legs that he couldn't walk or crawl until he was 19months as he couldn't lift his backside! He shuffled everywhere which is the most awkward looking thing. There's no grace to it and it's very funny to watch.

Don't worry.

Dont worry yourself about it, the only thing i would say is keep weighing your child every 3 or so months and see how much weight he is putting on and once they are active more the weight evens out and they shoot upwards, if your child is really active but still very chunky at 3yr-4yrs old maybe take a closer look at their diet and see if maybe they are overeating and eating wrong foods but at this age i wouldnt have any concerns unless he was really big.
