i've been told that if you express a little just to take the edge off the pain that can help, your breasts will soon know that less milk is needed an will settle down. hope that helps kelly

Hi everyone, it is now day 3 and I am still very full and in agony! I cant believe how much pain I am in or how much I am leaking. I slept with cabbage leaves in my bra to see if that would help. I am taking pain killers every 4 hours, my husband is shocked as I hardly ever take pain meds, but I am in that sore. Does anyone know how much longer this will last? thanking you om advance

Hi, sorry to hear you are in so much pain. When I stopped feeding Kieron i was advised by the HV to only frop one feed at first and continue to BF as normal for the others. I did this for three days, then dropped a second feed for three days and son on. If i got sore then I would express just enough to make me comfortable again. I think it took about 3 weeks to drop all the feeds and after about a week I found that I didnt need to express much at all. You should be less sore as you will still be feeding at the other times. I know 3 weeks may sound like forever to you right now but I didnt have problems with pain. I would certainly try and talk to a HV or Gp if the pain gets too bad. good luck, hope it eases soon.

Hi Louie, I know you have said that you have tried the cabbage leaves in your bra etc., but have you applied them properly. You should wash in cold water pat dry and put in the fridge overnight or for at least 4-5 hours. When you wish to use them put them between two strips of clingfilm or an old teatowel and hammer the stems, then whilst the sap is fresh apply to breasts. Believe me it does work. Smells a bit as the juices warm up, but hey anything's better than the pain of swollen and sore breasts. Good luck and remember the pain is always worth it when you look down at your bundle of joy!
