Thanks Lorraine and Pinky. What you have both said makes sense so i will try not to stress from now on. Peanut came over last night for a party i was having and we had a tiny bit of progress. She saw what Lucy was like a suggested rubbing her top lip with the spoon to encourage her to open her mouth which she did and managed 3/4's of a jar and she slept through. Yay. She hasn't eaten much today but we've been out and about so i'm guessing it's because we were out of routine.

Thanks everyone for calming me down. I'm glad i posted as your comments are just what i needed.

Rhi - can't believe your HV is being so blinking minded about it all. That's crap advice to tell you that you have to wean her if you ask me!

Sorry if anybody else has mentioned this, but has she started teething yet? often babies don't want to eat when they are teething and if she hasn't got any teeth yet, she might not be that keen on food. I was lucky in that my munchkin teethed really early so when it came to solids, she had 4 teeth to help her chew but friends of mine said that they found weaning much much easier once their wee ones teeth were through.

I agree with all that's been said though - it's all sensible advice and weaning takes forever - you certainly can't do it in a month!!!! And don't get stressed about it - she really will take to food when she's good and ready!

The only other thing I would say is that my DD hated jarred foods and really did prefer my home cooking so it might be that she simply doesn't like the taste of the food? You could always try just trying her with some home-made purees of sweet potato, carrots, pears and apples, that kind of thing. They don't take long to prepare honest and are a lot healthier. Annabel Karmel does a great range of books on weaning.

hope this helps

Also Annabel Karmel does a range of things you can get in boots which includes a food mill,(£8) you just take a few bits that you are having, and mill it up, (it helps potatoes stay in a nice consistency rather than go too gooey)
And means you dont even need to pre-prepare you just mill your stuff minus salt.
I thought these were a great idea although i am the blending in bulk queen, i peel, chop, steam, puree, shove in ice cube tray and when frozen pop into marked bags and leave in freezer, then get little blocks out and use as and when, mix and match and as baby gets more hungry use more blocks.
Looking forward to sophie weaning now, its a nice stage. steamed apple and pear is lovely!
I agree about the jars too, all mine prefered the home food to jars, i think its because to be honest its so bland the home cooked stuff and when you are used to milk i suppose bland is nicer!

Thanks guys. I think you might be right with the teething thing. We have just found that using teething gel just before the meal seems to help a little. Also peanuts tip about rubbing the spoon on the top lip to encourage her to open her mouth seems to have worked and she's finally starting to open her mouth herself. Yay. and eat a bit better too.

So a massive thanks to everyone for their advice and calming me down. I am glad i posted for help.
