well in so angry

i bought a carseat from argos last year it was a mammas and pappas seat suitable from 12 months to 11 yers thoiught great, i dnt drive was a simple pop inand out car seat for when i popped to shop in my grandads car so that bailey wasnt on my knee, use it maybe once twice a month it dont have 5point harness which i was worried about but he fit in the weight catagory and he was 16 months so i trusted he was ok

got the new catalouge on saturday and the same car seat is no stationg that its from 4 years to 11 years and its a total cok up my sos life has been at risk everytime ive used it as i trusted them, i phoned argos customer services today and they are willing to give me a full refund and they said they are actually unaware of the correct weight/age

the car seat could have been the thing tha saved a childs life in a car accident bu if we had crashed bailey could have been dead as he didnt fit it right im so upset about the whole thing thinking i trusted something like that and ive put my sons life at risk

Hiya...

That sounds really bad, at least customer services have offered you a refund. I'd check with them and see if they're going to do a recall as they should really advertise their mistake publicly.

I know that most carseats that use a seatbelt rather than a harness are useless unless your baby weighs 15kg or more; as it's their weight which activates the seatbelt and keeps them in the seat if you have an accident.

Good job you saw the new catalogue!

Write to watchdog and Which? They'll be very interested to hear about that little story!!!

Good job you got the refund offered though - Emmalou is absolutely right - under 15kgs no child is safe just in the seatbelt. My DS (bless him!) is only 16kgs at aged nearly 5 so I have still got him in the maxi cosi tobi (great seat and Which best buy for safety) which has the 5 point harness and goes up to 18kgs. I did try him in a seatbelt only seat for a few months when he first started school as I was worried he'd be teased for being in a baby seat, but did an emergency stop once when some idiot walked out in front of me and DS headbutted the seat in front of him quite hard. That scared the crap outta me so he went straight back in a 5 point harness!!

Try not to panic about the past - Bailey is ok and safe and thankfully you never had to find out if he was ok in that seat. Get that money off Argos - they owe you!!

xx
