Sharon, so sorry your lovely day was spoilt by fighting. Everyone else is right, in time you will see it as Leland's special day and look back at the photos of him in his lovely outfit with pride.
Chele, oh poor you going back to work, oh I hope your last week at home is lovely, make the most of it hun.
Lynn, hope Abbie settles into sleeping by herself quickly. Sorry her jabs upset her, Ben has his last one's next Tues and I'm dreadin g it as its 3 jabs. He was fine last time though, not even grizzly afterwards.
Karen, sorry your clan have been ill. You must be exhausted, I hope little Katie gets better very soon.
Hi to everyone else.
Me and DH took Ben swimming for the first time yesterday. It went fine, no tears except he was sick in the pool , and wasn't too impressed about being dunked lol. Tried him on some butternut squash mixed with his rice earlier, well it didn't touch the sides, he loved it and ate every last bit.
For those who have experience of weaning, should I continue to mix the squash with the rice for this week or do you think Ben could have it on its own as he liked it?

Welcome Joanne! Of course you can stay with us. I should technically be on your thread anyhoo because Daniel was born on 1st September as he was late - actually due 27th August! But we were always going to be borderline
He did have jabs today Really really cried. Poor little mite. Doctor checked him over first to make sure he was well enough and given that he is on the mend they thought best to give him as they really do not like dealying them unless they are really ill. He is back to normal now anyway - well until jabs kick in
Kate - on the swimming front I asked several health visitors about taking Daniel. three out of four said you can take him after the second lot of jabs but one said wait to all three which is another month off. I checked again today and hv said no its fine after he has had the two sets does not need to wait til third. Did Ben have all three sets or has he just had the first and second lot? I would really like to take him sooner rather then later to get him used to it becuase I wont be wanting to take him too much once bad weather starts.
Kate - i'd certainly try the squash without the rice - i haven't bothered with rice for a while now - although i may have to go back to the start with her once we're over this bug!!!
Joanne - hi! of course you are welcome to join us!
PJ Girl - i've been taking Katie since after having her first set of injections! My doc and nurse at her injection said that was fine. She loves it!!
Sharon - hope you are ok - you sound busy like me! It's all these flipping kids!!!! Babies are a doddle in comparison to teenagers! My eldest was 18 on Monday - how old do i feel!!!
Hope everyone else is ok - haven't heard from a few in ages. It's a busy time of the year with out a baby to look after too!!!
Love to all Karen xxxxx

PJ Girl, what conflicting info re the swimming. Well my HV said you don't even have to wait for jabs at all nowardays, I'm sure the NHS leaflet about the jabs says that too. Anyway Ben has only had the two lots. So I say take Daniel and have some fun!
Glad he's recovered from his jabs this morning, Ben was much better with his second lot, no after effects at all.

I just checked the NHS guide to childhood immunisations leaflet I was given at Ben's first jabs and it says in the Q&As... "contrary to popular belief, you can take your baby swimming at any time before and after their immunisation".

On the swimming front I got a booklet of my HV all about the immunisations & in there it says babies can swim before jabs.... So when we went away I think Joel was about 9 weeks we took him swimming & he loved it (or was it all the atention he got) LOL...
I hav'nt taken him since as things are so hectic, Anyway abit about Joel he was born 18th August @00.45 by emergency section, weighed 5lb 8 & now he weighs 13lb 5oz as of last week. He was recently diagnosed with lactose intolerance, Originally thought it was colic.... Colief was gr8 & we managed to get it on prescription after i proved it worked...
Joel now on wysoy & finally sleeps through the night.......
So what about all the other little munchkins....
Thanks once again for thw welcome Joanne x

Welcome Joanne, looking forward to getting to know you! Joel sounds like he's doing extremely well too!
Well a little about Ben, he was diagnosed with exomphalos when I was 13 weeks pg, it meant his liver and a loop of bowel developed outside his abdomen inside his unbilical cord. Anyway he was born naturally by induction on 7th Aug weighing 6lb 1oz and had surgery to put everything back in his abdomen at 18hrs old. He hasn't looked back and after a 10 day stay in hospital we came home, he's thrving and was 13lb 7ox when he was weighed last week. He's the same as any other baby, just was a 2 inch long scar on his tummy.

My first was lactose intolerant too - he couldn't drink wysoy either though! Eventually at 6weeks he was weened onto solids and was fine after that - he was 18 this week so didn't do him too much harm!
I have 5 children and a step daughter too. My little one is Katie and was born on 25th July by emergency section weighing 8lb 3oz. I haven't had her weighed since her 6wk check other than jumping on the bathroom scales with her - she was 16lbs ish a couple of weeks ago!
Kate - when are Ben's next set of jabs - Katies are tomorrow - just hope she is ok to have them!

It is rubbish this contradiction with health visitors. I had noticed that in the immunisation leaflet but hv view was to get jabs first. She was probably old school. Anyhoo the upshot looks like i can take him anytime now I will just wait til he is clear of this cold will give couple of days and give him chance to get over jabs as well.
Joanne - I was Emergency c-section as well. Was not really emergency though as baby not in distress its just I was an induction due to pre-eclampsia. Was due 27th August, induced 31st August but did not progress so c-section 1st September after I contracted infection. Decision taken to c-section before baby in distress so was quite relaxed considering. Was in for a while though because Daniel had an intial test that came back positive for Group B step but when bloods were taken they came back clear. It is still a bit of a question mark and we were in for a bit for him to have antibiotics but he was fine throughout so they suspected he did not get it. I knew my birth experience would be anything from straightforward - typically! Daniel was born 10.49 on 01.09.06 weighing 8lb 7oz so I think he probably stands in good stead for being the oldest in his year! With ebing induced on 31st August he was either going to be the very very youngest or very oldest. I am 26 and Daniel is my first baby so I am typical neurotic mother and I just cant seem to help it!!
Hope everyone else is ok with up and coming jabs. Kate - its funny you say that because Daniel does not seem as unwell with this second lot as he did with first. Touch wood he will be ok this time!
just a quick catch up, Dh due home any minute after a night away and i haven't even started dinner! lazy old wife that i am, ha ha.
welcome joanne! Joel is one day younger than Sam, my little boy. good to have you on the thread.
haven't got time for lots of personals i'm afraid, just got to send my love to sharon, sounds like you had a complete nightmare, hon, hopefully in time you will be able to focus on the good part of the day and not the end where you were so let down by your guests. hope you feel better soon!
Well, inverness was lovely although the weather was shiiiite. didn't do much walking, instead ate three course lunches and dranks lots. oops. really got to get a bit more disciplined, want to lose this last half stone of baby weight befor xmas!
sam is doing well, although the last 6 or 7 nights has started waking overnight again, he doesn't cry or anything, i can just hear him squealing and cooing on the monitor for an hour or so. its really bizarre. he is having the same daytime naps as normal and doesn't seem to be any hungrier than before - still takingabout 28oz -30 oz a day and i reckon he has put on weight, must be about 17lb now - getting him weighed tomorrow. anyway its really weird! he is also rolling over which has messed up his sleeping even more - he has always slept on his side but now its a nightmare as he can't help rolling onto his tummy!
hey ho...its all part of the fun, i guess. who needs sleep anyway?
well, better go and be a domestic goddess. oooh, by the way pj girl read that book on holiday and loved it xxx
Hi Tallgirl!!!!!!!!!! Great to hear from you chick. Glad Sam is doing well. On the rolling over issue I bought Daniel one of those support cushion things taht stop them rolling. It is like a pillow either side but firm and it has a dog one one side but is is firm and keeps them in position. It sounds bizarre and I am rubbish as describing it but it works a treat. If you are interested I can post a link to it. It was on ebay. Also Daniel is having same issues as Sam with feeding. Very rarely taking over the 30oz mark {should be on 35oz by my calculations} Last week when he was full of cold he was averaging about 17oz I was worried but he had put 2oz on today so that was a releif at least he hadnt lost any. HV also confirm he is teething which is why he might have been a bit faffy with his food before being ill. She had a feel and they are his incisors {sp???} I was expecting the front ones first and apparantly these ones he's getting are most painful - great!
Well, Abbie sent herself to sleep tonight after only 5 mins of screaming! Think I'm finally getting somewhere and have just treated myself to a glass of wine so having a nice evening!
PJ Girl - our hv said that we were fine to go swimming whenever we wanted to even before her jabs, but our local pool wont let you in until the babies have had their 2nd lot! How stupid! Hope you enjoy it though, Abbie loves it. We have enrolled her in swimming 'lessons' on saturday mornings, I cant wait to go!
Joanne - welcome to the thread! I havent started weaning Abbie yet so wont beable to help you with that but look forward to getting to know you. Abbie was born on 31st July by planned c/section as she was breech. She was 6lb 4 at birth, but last week weighed a whopping 16lb! little chubby!
Kate - pleased to hear Ben is doing so well with his food. you must be soooo proud of him after all he's been through.
Karen - not pleased to hear that babies are a doddle compared to teenagers! arrrghh what have we let ourselves in for!!!
Tallgirl - great to hear that you had a good holiday! You've done really well losing most of your weight. I'm rubbish! Cant stop eating at the mo and I'm sure I'm gaining weight quicker than Abbie! MUST start after xmas! Abbie went through a phase last week of waking in the night, but she has now settled back down again to sleeping through the night, it may just be a growth spurt or his teeth playing him up maybe?
Should I be worried that Abbie is making absolutely no effort whatsoever to roll over? She spends ages laying under her gym kicking away and if I put her on her tummy she will lift her head and chest off the ground too. She also loves sitting up and can even manage a couple of seconds unsupported before she falls. Is their anything I can do to encourage her to roll or should I just leave her be?
Anyway, sorry for waffling, must go to bed now, dh will be wondering what I'm up to!!
Lynn xx
