well my advice to you is keep going in and laying him back down, he will soon get the message that its bed time. i know its annoying keep walking back upstairs but believe me he will eventually go to sleep, picking him up only means his won. It will be hard at 1st but it will get easier promise, this worked when my son was being a pain in the bum too Good luck xx

Thanks for your reply, I have done that the last two nights, first night he finally went sleep at 9.30 and last night was 9.00 - so making some progress. I think I was getting myself into such a flap I was making it worse, when he wasn't falling asleep I was picking him up, which was kinda training him if you cry hard enough you will get out.
