Hi! Anyone able to offer any advice or suggestions? DS (20 months) has sucked his thumb since birth. It's always been quite red and dry but last couple of days has been blistering, cracking and weeping. Took him to dr today and got trimovate cream and then bandaged up his wee hand. He's not v happy about it but hopefully he'll keep it on and give the wound a chance to heal. Anybody had success with weaning their child off thumb sucking? He's only 20 months so the books won't really help yet and the only thumb guards I've seen are for older children. I was never too concerned as thought he'd stop himself given time but now his thumb is infected. Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks
Hi there my son sucks his fingers and has since birth and sometimes they get very sore and blister, I give a dummy from time to time as a substitute, not always as I know a lot of people don't like them or would not agree with what I am saying. Its just somthing to think about while his thumb gets better. xx

Hi, thanks for your reply. Trying to get him to go cold turkey! No thumb and no dummy! He's never had one so not wanting to start now. Your DS must be around the same age as mine, he was born March 13th.
Yeah mine was born on the 15th March 06. Small world eh.
My son is sucking his fingers mainly when he is tired, another thing you can try is snacks when awake or toys and stuff I find these can help , only prob is at bed time though, he just wants his fingers
Good luck in going cold tureky, hope all goes well and he cracks it. xx
