Hi everyone, This is a common problem im sure, BUT i need some advice and help on what to feed my daughter. She was one in April and use to have a really good appetite, but now she seems un interrested in everything, even her milk, i have been told off by our doctor that she is not gaining enough weight and is sening her for urine tests ( much to my annoyance as she is healthy and has plenty of meat on her)
Anyway, she has always had her food quite sloppy and is a lazy eater (much to my doing) and is very lazy when it comes to chewing (with her 6 teeth) but with her lack of interest in food in general i am leaving her to finger food herself, hoping this will encourage her to eat again as its maybe more fun that way,
So i really need help on what to feed her and really how much is enough, as with a bowl food of slop i could see what she was eating, what can i give her that will be easy for her to eat and fill her up, this is simple im sure, she does have weetabix every morning which is the only thing i can really get her to eat all of. ???????????????????????????????????????????
So 2 ideas for the 2 main meals of the day would be great help please.
She does eat banana well for tea.
THANKS....SORRY for the long report. xxxxxx

Hi Carly,

Erm, I don't want to repeat what you might have tried, so would it be possible for you to tell us what kind of foods you have tried, and what she doesn't like? I think that would be a better place to start with some advice.
I know exactly what you mean though, my daughter is now coming upto 16 months, and she's also changing her eating habits. Mainly because she is becoming more independent, but she now does not eat a certain food for months, and will love a certain food for awhile, so I can't keep up with her!!!

My daughter tends to like Fromage frais the most. Thats since she's started eating solids!!! And yoghurts too. She enjoys eating potato wedges and bread.

Have you tried Mashed potatoes with your little one? Or Pasta? Or other mashed vegetables? How about rice? try making the rice over-cooked with loads of different vegetables, it doesn't have to be chewed but it quite satisfying.

Let us know how you get on! good luck...

Eliza

I used to give mine.... lunch: bread and butter or toast, some cheese, ham, grapes, apples, bananas, raisins, marmite, jam or sandwich spread on the bread/toast etc (not all on same plate, used to pick and mix)

for dinner: whatever we were having, so some cubed boiled potatoes or mash, sometimes chips, some veggies (carrots, broccoli, cailiflower, peas, sweetcorn etc) if the meat we were having was a chewy kind, I'd make little burgers (mince fried) and cut those up. Pasta tubes were a good one. And rice for for filling up those tums. At one year you can also introduce her to spoon and fork, then she can try and learn to feed herself more sloppy foods like a thick soup. (be prepared for a mess though!)

Another obvious one is to eat with her. Let her see what she is supposed to be doing and make it a nice fun time together

Research says a baby can take up to 20 tastes of a new food before they accept it, so just because they refuse it once, don't stop offering it, they will get used to it.

I've got four children now, one with a disability, and I've never had a fussy eater (luckily) but I always eat with them and even now will dish up a food they are not keen on, hoping they will like it eventually....my 13 year old discovered he now likes brussel sprouts recently lol

Thanks guys, have taken on board your advice and am now sitting my 2 together at a small play table, instead of leaving eli in the highchair she now sits with her brother and eats well with him, she seems a lot more interested in her food, am giving her a good mixture of veg, bread, pots, and pasta, normally with a sauce, and she seems to be enjoying it more,
Hope this lasts, thanks again, will shout if i need help again
Love carly

hi cr, you and yr little girl are not alone as me and my little girl who has just turned one have the same discussions about her love of weetabix.I have even had to go back to hand blending some of her food just so she'l eat something else... however im not that bothered as long as she is eating.
Everyone seems to blame her teething(she also has 6 teeth)which gets blamed on for everything from disturbed nights to sore bums oh and tickly coughs!! does that mean once her teeth come in she'l be the perfect child.
