My baby boy is only 5 weeks old and he also loves to sleep on his front, especially on someones chest. He will sleep in his moses basket once he has fallen asleep whilst being held and gently patted.
During the day he prefers to sleep in his car seat, i think he likes to be tight and secure, however, when i try and wrap him up in a blanket to create that security in his basket, he kicks the blanket off and is restless and being as it is summer time, it is too hot. I know he is still only very small, but i do not want to form bad habits especially at night time, he begins the night in his basket then when he wakes up for his feed, he is restless and spends the rest of the night in bed on my chest or next to me. Any ideas or methods to stop this and i would be most grateful. Lyndsey

My son was the same as yours at five weeks, he loved to fall asleep on someones chest, he was born in the beginning of june which was when our lovely heat wave started so he has never been wrapped in a blanket because of the heat, at night he would feed and fall asleep on me or next to me and moan when he was moved. Now he's 11 weeks and really doesn't like laying on anyones chest, i think he's just grown out of it. I'm affraid im only gonna say what others have said on other topics, you need to introduce a sleeping routeen, if you lay him in his cot while awake when he finally wakes up he will know where he is, and if you are persistent with the routeen sleeping in his cot will become normal to him. Alot of people have found the pick up. put down method works well.
Also your baby may not like his cot because it is so big, you could put the moses basket in the cot at night untill he is a little older then introduce him to his cot during the day.

HI LYSNDEY My daughter also falls asleep on my chest. I will give her a night feed she will then fall asleep on my chest then a few hours later we both wake up. I will put her in her moses basket when she is very tired but still awake and gentle pat her then she will go to sleep.I dont know if your son is your only child but it is very easy to spoil him, try and be firm and put him in his moses basket when he is tired and eventualy he will learn to go to sleep on his own.
