Hello

I'm really interested to hear any comments from readers, good or bad about the Contented Little Baby Book. Particularly those who have tried her methods.

My friend has got this book and although she's not put it into practice yet (she's due mid May), I'm thinking about ordering it.

Many thanks

Hiya,

I've got it and have looked into it a bit, but it's not for me. I found her routines a bit rigid and it felt as though I was concentrating more on when hes should be eating, sleeping according to a routine than actually enjoying him. I've opted for a more child centred approach, just going with the flow really, and we're doing fine, got a 12 hour night last night (he's 9 weeks).

I know plenty of people who completely swear by Gina Ford though so it's obviously the right way for some people. Maybe you could borrow a copy of the book from a library and have a read to see if you fancy it?

Sorry i'm not more help!

Hello[Big Grin]
I discovered Gina Ford when my first son was @ 2 months old. I got him into her routine and the words everyone used about him were 'contented' and 'happy'. It was wonderful because you knew exactly what he wanted whenever he cried!
With my daughter, I found it harder to stick to the routine, but got her into it at about 5 months old. That was great then as well.
However, with my new son, it is impossible to stick to her routines, so I just use her book for advice and problem shooting.
I would swear by her routines for a first and possibly a second child, but I think that if you use her as a guideline you can't go far wrong.
The only thing I would say about her book is that it isn't all that good when it comes to breast feeding. I fed my daughter and am breastfeeding my son and no matter what I do neither of them feed for as long as she says they should! They both put on weight fine, though, and are very healthy and happy.
Good luck, but whatever happens remember there's nothing like mothers' instincts to guide you along!

Hi Rachel

I by passed Gine Ford for no other reason than she doesn't have kikds of her own. Therefore, I have no idea whether her methods are good or not.

However, I bought the Baby Whisperer book after watching her on TV and found her really helpful.

I would get a few books anyway as some parenting styles and methods will suit you and others you will hate.

Good luck

Hi Rachel,
I bought both Gina Ford and The Baby Whisperer and have to say my favourite is The Baby Whisperer (it was recommended to me by 2 other friends). I read Gina before my lo came along and thought that it sounded good (apart from the black-oout blinds which I don't agree with) by my lo had different ideas!![Smiler. TBW however, works like a charm for us. But as a pp says, mothers instinct is best. Cherry pick what works for you.
Good luck for the birth and enjoy your lo.
