Hi-just butting in as I was being nosey on your thread Forgive me for lack of names-the herbs for increasing milk supply are blessed thistle and fenugreek-you should be able to get them at a health food store-also eating porridge!!!! Also I feed from one breast at each feed-it's then usually well emptied and easy to tell by feeling which one is the full one and which one empty. For any of you breastfeeding a good site is www.kellymom.com I can't recommend it highly enough. You all sound like you are doing fantastically, I love all your baby names. If anyone wants any breastfeeding advice I'm usually over on the babies born Sept 06 thread!!!

kt, youll probably find things will settle once shes over the jaundice, i know i did, she wont be so sleepy. also if she is hard to wake again properly to feed try undressing her, tis what my midwifes recommended to do to wake her up more so will feed better, the warmth of your body to hers will keep her warm enough. dont worry hun she will settle in better soon, the first 2-3 weeks are the hardest as you both work out routine and working out what works and what doesnt. xxxx we have only just this week worked out what she likes or dislikes and things are much better. does she burp after feeds quite a bit? infacol has helped katie, some of them are so huge!! lol but it works. oh she gained 500 grams in 2 weeks!!! nearly 6lb now yay argh dead left arm here from holding her asleep in arms lol will try get back later next feed xx vicki

Loocy hun, if after you have fed you still feel full, try expressing some milk, (will stop you getting sore and give other people a chance to feed Eilidh). When you can't get anymore out, you will know your empty! If you haven't managed to get about 2oz from one breast, express a little from the other, just to give you a good amount! Then When you are ready to feed again, you should be able to feel which breast is fuller and harder, so you will know which one to use! You can express anytime, especially if you are feeling really full, even if it is not long before a next feed, still express some, don't worry about not having enoough for the feed, you will have plenty!! Also have you tried the Avent nipple cream? It's not cheap, but it really helped when I started getting sore due to the way Luca latches on, because of his tongue tie! Eilidh might be going to sleep because she has wind... Luca will feed for a while, then nod off but won't really be finished feeding, I just wind him for a while( while he is still asleep) and he will usually want more once he has been winded! Summer, Luckily Luca's tongue tie was noticed after only a few days, and I have an appointment to see a consultant on 9th Feb, althought there is no garentee they will do anything about it, as hospitals only tend to correct it when it starts affecting feeding, or speech when they get older! We are going to insist they do it sooner rather they later, for a start its easier to do on a baby, then on a toddler, and we dont want him to have to start having problems with his speech before they do anything, as it would mean he would be learning how to speak twice!!! I will let you know how we get on after his appointment! Hope that all made sense as I am typing one handed due to the fact I have a hungry boy attached to me atm! lol Hope everyone else is doing ok and that mums and bubs are fine? Take care Tina xxx

Hi everyone Loocy - just to say like Tina I tend to feed Kaitlyn in courses. She has her starter, nods off, winds, goes back for her main after which I think she's finished so I change her then she usually goes back for dessert. I have found expressing great too. I still get mixed up which side I fed her on but she seems to be getting enough. Today's little worry is about how much she is pooing. It seems that every nappy change there is poo. Sometimes just a bit and others a full load as it were. Was going to check with midwife when I see her on Monday but is this normal?? Hoping it just means she is getting plently food. Anyone any ideas?? She also has a bit of nappy rash - am using sudocreme but not sure I dreamt it but I'm sure I read about people using breast milk???? Am I completley losing it or is that true??? (BTW - I am changing her regulalry!!!) Hope everyone is ok...seems quiet... Lx

Doh! I'm only just discovering we've started a parenting thread! All the baies are as cute as buttons. I've had two minutes to go on msn and have a look. Anyone got any tips on how to catch wee boy pee when changing a nappy? Everytime I change Alfie he fires pee off in all directions!!! Found out too when putting a nappy on his dinkle should point down the way to avoid any leakage. Sorry I'm being trivial... everything else is so overwhelming at the moment. Still v upset about b/f my (.)(.)s have deflated to almost their old size So that's it, no going back which is distressing. I need to stop dwelling on it Alfie's 7lbs now so he's over his birth weight Speak soon. Hope you're all doing well. x

A really quick one.. be back this evening! Poo every nappy change is quite normal Laura. Daisy would have a full load every change. Jake is less... maybe 2 or 3 nappies a day are hefty ones. All normal when b/feeding. Ummmm... not heard about the breast milk for nappy rash. I find Sudocrem is good Ha ha... I've no tips for the pee Mari Just trying to get the hang of that myself. I just try and change him really fast! I'm sorry you're feeling so down about the b/f I can empathise lots... Jake's weight gain has been crap this week (lost 10g) and I'm feeling pretty awful about it. Am hoping its just a blip or maybe that his tongue tie isn't helping. The consultant's secretary rang this morning and we've got an appt in Southampton for him on Weds morning. They'll do it there and then if it needs doing. Got to dash. Oooh... pics are fab... Mari I love that 1st one of the 3 of you. Big hugs xxxxxxx

I agree with Summer Laura. midwifes and sister said to me that a poo every change is whats expected for bf'ed babies, Katie now only does about 2 a day with the bottle but very full ones lol. the rash.. any chance you can let her lie free for a bit each day? Havnt had any problems here yet but did a few times with the boys and it does help to let the bits "air out" occasionally. Just lay her on a few cloth nappies to soak up spills and change as she wets it. girls are much easier for this as doesnt spray all over the place like boys lol a good time would be at play/wake time when your talking to her etc. Mari: fully understand where your coming from hun as it was so important to me to bf till about 9-10 months, but I couldnt keep it up with them so sore and the cs sect infection and so now I just keep reminding myself how its for the better, Katies weight gain is fantastic now, shes almost 6lb! she gained 500grams in 2 weeks, thats at the max end of scale too. Dont beat your self up and look on the bright side hun ((hugss)) hope you feel better soon. oh and on the pee things. after 2 boys i never really had a problem with that, maybe once or twice, I think your alfie is maybe just a little cheeky! typical boy! joking aside.. what summer said and maybe just change faster OR drape a cloth nappy over it while you lift him up and get nappy adjusted underneath and ready. good luck! hi Tina, glad things are well your end xx summer: hope it is just a blip and jake gets gaining again! well not much change here, 2 x 4 and hf hr sleeps last night and back down fed and asleep within half hr! so by time i got back sleep i got 2 x 3 hr and feel heaps rested..so far lol hits me like a truck later tho when mummy nap required. So damn hot here at the moment, 40 degrees + with thunder storms so humid as!! Blessed we got new aircon last week tho and does the whole house at a regulated setting whatever degree I want. Katie had 2 longggg wake times yesterday, was awesome, she wants to kick and wave around and goo and gah with occasional yell lol. soo cute gota go, shes crying xx Vicki

Hiya Just a quickie for Mari on the cheeky boys peeing all over! After 2 months of trying I've finally got the hang of it haha. When you open the nappy wait a minute or so until you see his schweeny peenie move slightly (it starts to point upwards sligtly)then pop it back over quickly for a minute and you manage to catch the wee! I've missed a few times & Ben has piddled in his own face.. oops! hehe. Good luck! Michelle xx

Hello Thanks for all your tips! Michelle I'd started doing what you've suggested but I don;t always get it. glad I'm not the only one though He peeed in his ear the other day which freaked us out! But apparently baby urine is sterile so there's nothing to worry about. Vicki - thanks for your kind words. It's nice to know someone knows exactly how I feel, doesn't matter what others say to me it's getting my own head round it that's the big issue. I can't talk to people face to face about it or I start crying. But Alfie is doing well and that is the main thing. Summer - Hope Jake's weight picks up. You have enough to contend with! I'll say it again i just don't know how you manage laura - sounds like you're doing great on the b/f front. I think it must be so much more convenient. I try to split a bottle ocassionaly with Alfie, give him half, change him then the other half, but I worry about the formula going off. Speak soon x

Hiya I'm still alive! Sorry I've not been on for a few days - things have been hectic here! Anniversary was ok in the end but I was being really hormonal anyway. Didn't really do much but I was so tired it didn't matter! Feeling much better now and Eilidh is still being an angel Thanks for all the tips on b/f - it's going much better now thanks!! We're getting the hang of it - a learning curve for both of us. She's now learned how to be sick though - doesn't matter how long I burp her for (5 minutes or half an hour) but as soon as I lie her back down she turns her head to the side and barfs up! She does make me laugh!! I'm sure like everyone else's gorgeous wee ones, she has an amazing array of faces that she pulls!!! Still, she seems quite happy to sleep in a pool of her own vomit, so i'm not complaining!!! Ooo that sounds awful - I don't leave her lying in it, don't worry!!!! Laura - glad you are sounding a bit brighter about the harness and it won't be for long. The time is flying in already!! Mari - like everyone has already said, it's natural to feel panicky. I'm starting to find that she'll soon let me know if there's something wrong so I've stopped checking her nappy for wee every 5 minutes!!! Sorry you're still feeling a bit down about the b/f- have you talked to your health visitor about it? it might help?? I can't remember if I thanked everyone for their cards but thank you summer, laura, mari and tina - we have had so many cards and cute little pink dresses for when she's a bit older! It's fab - people are so generous!! summer so pleased to hear that the boys are getting on so well!! take care Loocy xx [

Sorry to butt in again, Mari you sound exactly like I was with Ben at the beginning when I changed to formula. I'd constantly worry about it going off & would sometimes make a fresh one for him to have but now I'm ok. The HV usually tells you to make up each bottle before a feed but sometimes its a bit of a hassle when you have a hungry baby on your hands crying & demanding so I make up all Ben's bottles on a morning, cool them & put them in the fridge. This way they can last up to 24hrs & you just need to give them a shake when you re-heat them & a bottle once warm can be used in an hour so don't worry, you have plenty of time. I felt down for ages about changing to formula & not breast milk & would burst into tears all the time about it & feel like a failure. Then I realised Ben was much happier & settled in himself, I was much happier because I knew he was getting enough milk & he got the goodness what he needed from breast milk when I tried for 6 weeks so no matter what the midwife said I did what I felt best for my baby in the end. I also found bottles to be much more convenient than breast milk. We started to get out & about & people always wanted to have a go at feeding Ben so I got a bit of time to relax & have a cuppa but still have my baby close by & it also lets OH to bond aswell a bit with the baby & you can have a goodnights sleep when you need one just get OH to do the night feeds! hehe. How are you all finding motherhood then? Its amazing to finally meet these little aliens we have been growing for 9 months & your whole world completly changes doesn't it. I can't believe your babies are 4 weeks old already, time really does fly by these days - it only seems like 5 minutes since I was reading your posts on the pregnancy thread! Michelle xx
