Just wonderin if anyone has any advice, im completely breastfeeding my 7 week old son, I am startin to think he may be teething, Hes drooling a lot and blowin bubbles and chewing on his dummy. But also during feeds he chomps down on my breast, but its usually my nipple that gets it as before he does it he pulls his head back slighly.

I just sussed out how to protect myself from comfort suckling, and to be honest people say that the first two weeks are the hardest. Ive been finding it getting more n more difficult.

He is bad with a reflux and is getting quite colicky at times. I have removed dairy products from my diet as h/v suggested an allergy to cows milk protein.

Im struggling to not give him formula, i had just started enjoying bf and now im in quite a bit of discomfort, as before he comfort suckled at the end of a feed, but he is chomping down at any stage during his feed.

Anyone been through anythin similar or ave any advice, me nipple shields arent helpin much.

have you tried him with a dummy that is something he can bite onto rather than you. Best thing is removing him from the breast each time which i think by the sounds of it you are doing. If he is teething then unfortunatly there is not much you can do. A stern 'No' each time is recommended for older babies but your ds sounds a bit young but then again he may come to recognise the tone of voice therefore stopping him.
I breastfeed my dd and have introduced 2 formula bottles a day from 7mths due to her biting with 2 teeth and also she was not gaining weight for a while.
for colic when breastfeeding its hard to give them anything as most things need mixing with milk like Colief for example.

Sorry im not much help

hi!

Infacol always worked quite well on my kiddies, my last baby had very bad colic, we gave her a dummy and a vibrating bouncer chair, mad as it sounds,it made her very happy!

I fed her till she was nearly 2yrs old, and nearly gave up so many times from the pain, but to be honest i never found a way round it, i just carried on and gritted my teeth and it got better and ended with no probs. I did try to give her formula at night, but she refused to drink it, so i kind of had to keep going!

Not sure if i really helped?

Hi Shenx

Have you got any breastfeeding support groups near you because if you go along and they can see what he's doing they should be able to advise on the best course of action. It may help to have a look at these as well:

http://www.kellymom.com/bf/older-baby/biting.html

http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/distractible-baby.html

There is some advice on what to do when your baby pulls away and what holds you can try to prevent it. I know he has no teeth but the biting one has some useful tips for babies clamping down, it hurts whether they have teeth or not!!

Hope this helps honey x

hi shenx..
i posted a thread about this a few weeks back now, not sure why mason started doing it but he doesn't do it so much now.. once or twice a week maybe, i just say no and pull him off.
He also suffers with a bit of reflux but he doesnt have anything for it, i find feeding him upright and keeping him upright for 10-20mins after a feed before laying him down helps a lot..
hope this helps.

Have you tried the Avent nippls shields? They are brilliant and work, should make feeding better for you both, I used them and they were brill.
