hi there people iv just taken a peek into my little ones mouth and to my horror he has a huge greenish blister type thing on the roof of his mouth iv had real trouble weaning him and as of yet he still only has 3 mouthfulls of food a day could this be the cause of his problems the health visitor isnt concerned about his feeding at all as she says as long as hes sleeping well at night and putting weight on and drinking his milk he should be fine im so frightened of what this could be alfies my fourth child and iv never encounterd any problems whatsoever with weaning the others if anyone could give me some advice it would be greatfully apreciated

No advice Sam apart from to say take him to the doc 1st thing on Monday. Or if your out of hours service is better than our system, maybe take him along tomorrow.
Sounds horrid, poor chap. Definitely not normal at any rate!

oooohhhh thanks summer iv looked on nhs direct and theres nothing on there at all so i think when matts home tomarrow ill get him to take us to the walk in center just looked again and theres also a similar type thing on his gum too i dont know if its spreading ???? will keep a very close eye on him tonight

I tried to post earlier about taking him to a walk in centre but for some reason i couldnt!
poor little man, doesnt sound very nice for him - i hope it gets sorted out soon!

You could phone NHS direct and see what they suggest. Doesn't sound very nice

on the phone to them as we post he seems absolutely fine no temp just a tiny wingy

have to wait for 4 hrs for a nurse to call back looks like i will probably be awake for the big fight tonight after all i will try to update you all before i go to bed

We had a little girl in the clinic today with the same symptoms & she was diagnosed with hands, foot & mouth disease. She had 3 greenish coloured blisters in her mouth, one was on her tongue aswell the poor little thing - it could be that, maybe?!

NHS Direct are crap to say the least, you'll wait hours for a nurse to call you back & they will advise you to call the dr's because they can't give advice on any medication, they are useless! I'd give the out of hours dr's a call, they have to call back within 60 minutes so at least you won't be up all night waiting for a phone call!

Hope Alfie gets better soon & he's not in to much pain, if any!

God. Thats dreadful. Yeah... def do what Michelle suggests and ring out of hours docs instead.

Just looked up hand foot & mouth in my kiddies medical book... says blisters on hands and feet appear 1 or 2 days after those in the mouth. Not usually itchy or painful.
Says to give paracetamol to ease the pain from the mouth ulcers. Don't give fruit juices as they're too acidic and will make any pain in the mouth worse. May last up to 4 weeks in the mouth

Oh, and there may be a mild fever

ahhhh thamks guys nhs direct rang at 1.15am they werent very helpful at all so we waited till this morning and took him to walk in centre and he definately has what seems to be hand foot and mouth i was really shocked as i thought only animals got it lol alfies been quite poorly today i will make appt for our own dr to see him in the morning hes not feeding at all today and hes been asleep too so it looks like i might be up all night
matts on nights up at the docks tonight and it looks like he might be home extra early because of the rough sea and ships not being able to dock so im hoping and praying hes home and can give me a hand right im off to bed while bubs is asleep

Glad you found out what was wrong with Alfie, it seems theres a bit of that hand, foot & mouth disease going round at the moment in little kids, we had another kiddie at work with it today aswell!

NHS Direct are shocking, I don't know how they can still be running to be honest. They fob people off, make you wait hours & hours then tell you they can't help you anyway. I can't believe you got a call back at 1am, thats terrible isn't it!

Hopefully your lil one will get better & start drinking/feeding again soon.

i totally agree with you on the nhs direct thing i had to call them for myself a few times and each time theyve either fobbed me off or called an ambulance knowing i had no friends or family to contact to look after my 4 children theyve been ok with the children up till now i couldnt believe the time of the phonecall either it feels like iv had no sleep and im so tired now i cant sleep lol alfies settled now tho he had 3 ozs of milk 2 hrs ago and has been asleep since just hoping he stays asleep and doesnt wake his brother and sisters up (thats all i need all 4 of them awake lol) going to try and go sleep nhow thanks for all your great advice hopefully alfie will make a speedy recovery going to take him to gp in the morning just to double check diagnosis and that theres nothing else going on
