My DD just turned 3 months old and has started sleeping longer stretches at night. She has skipped her 2 am feeding and now sleeps until around 5 or 6 am and then goes back to sleep for another 3 to 4 hours. While I am completely delighted that she is doing this now, I am worried that she isn't eating enough. I have read that BF babies should have 7-8 feeds a day but she now seems happy with only 6. Do I enforce an extra feeding to make sure she eats 7 times or do I let her tell me what she wants?

I'd go with listening to what she wants. If she is hungry she will demand a feed. My little boy started sleeping through at 12 weeks and now at almost 4 months is down to 5 bottles a day. Why dont you try expressing and giving it her from a bottle to put your mind at ease, that way you will know how much she is getting and how often. Ethan has a 7oz bottle at 7am, 11am, 3pm and 7pm then a 4oz bottle at 11pm, he generally wakes up around 6.30am.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

My daughter is also 3 months, and bf.
I have been expressing daytime to give a night feed so i know she is getting it b4 bed time, she goes to sleep with feed at about 9 then up at about 1 and again 4 and so on.
Last night i did not give her expressed i just fed her and she settled much quicker, and went through til 4, so expressing seems a bit of a waste, i am now going to freeze what i express to do her baby rice and porridge with when i wean her.
As long as your dd is happy and gaining weight ok then i would not worry, my dd feeds as and when, it really is on demand, i dont count her feeds or for how long she feeds, if she crys i offer her boob and weighing in today at 12lb 7oz she is doing just fine.
My last dd slept through the night from birth, and was throughly content on breast milk, if a baby is hungry they will soon let you know!

Take care

Pinky xx

I'd listen to your baby. my little girl is four months old and completely different to my two previous babies. I was first told I was over feeding her. How do you stop a baby feeding?? She will now only take 4oz but wants it every three hours (but not at night). I go with the flow and have a happy little girl and don't tell the health vistor what she doesn't need to know!
