Hi Zoey, Leiah and Bump

I have a 3 year old and a baby (8 weeks)

Anyway in reply to your question. I have had eating problems with my son over the last 2 years. Somedays he would only drink milk or eat a yoghurt. Then he would eat but it was the same things all the time ie milk, youghurt, bread/toast, banana, grapes, apple juice, chips. Mealtimes were a bit of a nightmare as it became a fight and a battle of wills to get him to try something new. However, it takes time and I can now say that he is starting to eat a variety of things, fish, chicken, peas, sweetcorn, breakfast cereal, all very plain food, however he will also eat some of the little M&S toddler dinners such as pasta with spagbol sauce, chicken burger in a bun.

I spoke to our health visitor about 1 year ago because of the problem trying to get him to eat and she said that so long as he eats something and is thriving then is doesn't matter. The main thing is to encourage them to eat and if they don't, just be calm, children won't let themselves starve. Also bear in mind that kids like quite plain food and give small portions, huge mounds of food can be quite daunting. Also, if you can get one of those baby/toddler/family meal recipe books. It shows you how to make variations on food that are suitable for all ages of child through to adult. If kids see the parent eating the food they may be more inclined to try it. I also try to make a point of eating lunch / dinner with my son instead of him eating alone, and me waiting to have dinner with his dad when he gets in.

I hope this helps you decide what to do.

Best wishes

Aly

[Smiler]Hi zoey i have three boys and yes had the same problem with all mine. I was very concernred at the time but was reasurred by my healthvisitor that most kids go thriugh this i used to put the food on the table and we used to help orselves to the food and as my son used to see others doing it he would try it too or sometimes i would put just a tiny bit on the plate and as the plate did not look over loaded he would eat it. Have you tried finger foods like fish fingers etc as this always worked as well. Good luck

hi Zoey

I have a 5 year old boy, a 2 year old girl and a new baby 4 weeks old and I too have problems with the older two eating. I worried but the doctor said they will eat when hungry and if they won't eat what you give them take it away and don't let them have anything till next meal time. I have found that my 5 year old is eating a bit better now so they do grow out of it. Don't worry unless they seem unwell though not eating. I totally understand where you are coming from, think most of us have been there with our children.

Love Lorraine.xx
