Hi moms, some of you may have remembered when i wrote before about my little son Tyler having extremely bad colic, thanks for all the replies by the way, well now after long research i believe him to be lactose intolerant, so he can't digest milk properly, breast or milk. Tyler is now 7 weeks and for the whole of this time, he has suffered with what i though colic, then he had a bout of gastroenteritis 2 weeks ago, and he still has diarreoh now. After searching the net, i found that lactose intolerance has the sae symptons as colic but with diarreoh, which is what tyler has, and a lot of babies get misdiagnosed with colic, when they are just simply allergic to the milk. I discussed this with my doc and she's advised me to try soya milk for a week and if Tyler hasn't improved he needs further tests. The more i read about this, the more i think that this is the problem, pretty much the same as coli but with sickness and diarreoh. Anyway, i've only just discovered this today and only just started on the soya, so hopefully fingers crossed, this may be the end of his problem. Just wandering if anyone else out there has come across the same thing, and if any colicky babies really have colic after all...

Hi, Sorry to hear you and Tyler are still suffering. I hope the soya milk works for you in some senses, but in others I hope it's just colic as that will end soon whereas a food intolerance could last indefinitly. Good luck. Cheers Pele. [8D]

well the first night on soya and tyler was golden, he was like a completely different baby boy, no screaming, or pushing and griping, not having to rock him for hours on end til he falls asleep! in fact he actually wanted to play a little at 4 in the morning, which is so unlike tyler. of course i am devastated that i may never breastfeed him again, in a way i feel hopeless, but the milk was causing him so much pain and distress, he is far better on soya. i have been told that babies normally grow out of this tolerance, usually around 6 months, he can be reintroduced to cows milk. but for now, i am just so happy not to see my little love in so much pain.
dee and a very content tyler x

Hi Dee, So glad the soya seems to be working. Don't beat yourself up about not being able to breast feed. You've given him the best start by doing it from birth and it's nobody's fault if you can't continue. Just be glad that you now might be able to enjoy a contended little boy. Good luck. Pele. [8D]
