Hi everyone, I'm hoping for some advice from you lovely ladies
When I got Harriet dressed this morning I noticed she had a little bit of a red rash on her chest, nothing too bad just looked like little spots. Over the course of the morning it got loads worse and now covers her chest and shoulders and a little bit on her back. It looks like loads of tiny red spots and the skin underneath looks bumpy in places.
I thought it was measles (!) and was a bit worried so took her to the walk-in centre. The nurse there told me it's eczema and said to put some aqueous cream on it.
I'm a bit concerned that it's come up so quickly but I can't think of any reason for it. She's 100% breastfed and i use non-bio washing powder, the same brand since birth. I don't use any soap on her apart from shampoo for her hair. Does anyone have any ideas what could've caused it? The nurse just kept telling me that baby's skin is sensitive, I know that that's why I've been so careful!!
If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated, I can see a bit on her face and ears now too
hi there, my son has eczema and there is nothing that causes ezcema at all we are the same as you we use non bio and nothing in bath waer etc, all u can do is treat it when its there and just keep the skin moist we have used that cream but find e45 has same effect just keep the skin moist
it does come and go and certain things can set it off like different fabrics etc
hope u sort it out soon xx

Ruby had excema really bad when she was about 2 weeks - all over her face. Just be careful what you put on the skin (dont want to scare you) but the health visitor thought the excema was dry skin so told me to put olive oil on her face, I did and the next day her face was so red, looked so angry, took her to docs and he made us go straight to hosp, we had to stay in hospital for 3 days cos the olive oil had infected it and Ruby had to have antibiotics though a drip The doc in hosp said it was infected eczema
But now I use oilatum, but thats cos her excema has cleared up alot and its more dry skin. I use oilatum junior bath in her bath and her skin is perfect.
Health Vsitor told me to be careful with clothes- not alot of synthetic material and not to keep her too wrapped up cos that can trigger it off if they get too hot.

does she have a temp? has she been sick? has she been ok in herself, not sleepy, eating ok? does it go when u rub a glass over it?
I am wondering if it could be more than eczema?
I could be chicken pox or measlaes or maybe melengitis. I know that a nurse said its eczema but I am not convinced I would seek more advice in the form of a GP.
It could be that she has reacted to something maybe a cat or something.
But I would keep an eye on it and seek more advice esp if she has other symptoms just to be on the safe side.
Not trying to worry u just want to help. x

Thanks for all your advice, I've decided to go to the baby clinic tomorrow morning as I would like a 2nd opinion. It's not got any worse but some of the spots look like they have a white head and they are literally all over her chest
Musswells- she is absolutely fine in herself, eating well, no temp so I'm sure it's nothing too sinister. I get eczema myself so I know she'll be prone to it but it just doesn't look like any eczema I've had. Suppose baby's skin reacts differently??
might be chicken pox then, cos they come up as white heads ewwww It dont sound like eczema does it, I get it onmy hands and its nothing like spots! I deffo would get a second opinion babe.
I hope that she gets rid of it soon and hope that its not casuing her any disress, bless her and she is only wittle.
HV sent us through to the doctor this morning who told me it looks like seborrheic dermatitis and prescribed some hydrocortisone cream. Not really sure what that is, will have to google it now! It looks really red and angry, poor Hattie
Hi, glad you got a second opinion, i would of thought the doc would have explained to you what it was though anyway let us know how you got on with the googling chick
Obviously i would not step in over medical attention but this sounds very simmilar to what Sophie had a few weeks ago. She had red spotty rash that looked quite angry at times, it looks bit like heat rash and i asked the health visitor last time she was weighed. It was apparently where the moisture from her being sick sits on her skin and makes it spotty, so the rash was in places that would make sense, ie chest, face and neck, and ears, so if she was led down and was sick it went there and at night i was not always clearing it away so it sat on her skin. Two things have happened since and it has totally cleared, one she has stopped being quite such a sicky baby. (like Harriet totally breast fed) and also we were perscribed 'conotrane' which is an antiseptic soothing barrier cream, and worked within days and i use daily now to keep it away.
May be the same thing, or not but a thought that may help and set your mind at ease.
And like you i use all baby fabric powder, softner etc nothing for her to react to.
Harriet's very rarely sick so don't think it is what Sophie had. Although it did come on on the hottest day we've had since she was born so may have been heat related??
The spots are so much better today after just one application of the hydrocortisone cream Have looked up seb dermatitis and can't find any description of it that's even remotely close to what she has! Oh well, I'm sure the dr knows what he's talking about
