hi everyone i have been reading through some of the msgs and just wanted to let anyone who was wondering about getting pregnant after the coil, know my story. it all began on the 9th of jan 2006 when i had mine removed. i wanted to wait a few months before trying for a baby, so my hubby and me were being careful. the thing is we hadnt been 4 days before removal, and were told that there was a chance i could conceive! i didnt think it could happen, but 4 weeks later i did the test, and it was positive!!!
it diddnt all go to plan thogh as i took pre-eclamsia in july and give birth 12 weeks early to my son who weighed 2lb 1oz!!! he was very sick but thankfully he has made a full recovery and weighs 11lb and he is 22 weeks old. he really is a little miracle, both in his conception and birth.
just wanted to share my story,so please dont give up hope. Big Grin

Hi

I thought I would add my bit too! I had the Mirena coil taken out on May 06 (and funnily enough the severe vaginal itching, spots on boobs, patches of dry brown skin on face and chest cleared up immediately). I wanted to give my body a chance to recover from the hormones before going on the pill and was quite pleased to find that within 2 months my body had gone back to a normal 28 day cycle. However, in December I decided to ovulate early and oops I'm pregnant.
Very pleased once got over shock but I only hope that my womb lining can cope with my little blob.

Touchwood

I am 33 weeks pregnant with my second child after having the merina coil removed. I had it removed in March and I was pregnant by May so please do not despair there is hope - I found that the coil, after a period of about 3 months, really suited me and my lifestyle and I had it in for 2 years before having it removed. After spending the last 16 years trying various forms of contraception I will now go back to the merina coil after this birth as I found it suited me that wel.

Wink
wishing you the very best of luck.

Hello everyone. I'm new.
I'm 22 years old and married with two lovely children.
I had the marina fitted in july 2005. 5 months after the birth of my son. Had loads of problems with it and by december 06 decided that the time was right to start trying for baby number three.
Had it removed mid december. Bled for a few days but nothing major. Anyway, had a period on the 2nd jan but didn't dream that i would get pregnant straight away but low and behold after a couple of weeks of feeling weird took a take yesterday and it was positive.
So just wanted to say a quick hello and give some hope to everyone trying post 'evil' marina!!

Thanks ladies for the positives that can happen after the merina. It does give me some hope, but I just dread to think what I have done to my body with that evil thing! I don't like it and would never have another one especially after last week my friend was rushed into hospital and had to have hers surgically removed as it had migrated! Eeker Confused

But each to their own I know that it does suit some ladies.

Thanks again

Hi Touchwood!

I was just about to write to someone to ask the exact same thing as I have just read in your mail! Have you found anyone who conceived after removal of the mirena? I had mine out 3 weeks ago and am trying to conceive now. I had some bleeding 2 days after removal but am confused as to whether this might have been the beginning of my cycle or not. Could this be? Will I ever be able to sort out my cycle? This is very frustrating, especially as I am having such mood swings and sore breasts for example. Could I be pregnant? I am new to all of this and just want to get pregnant!
Thanks if you can offer any advice,
Vicster

Vicster,

I'm in the same situation. I had mine out a week ago and had heavy bleeding for 3 days and now have really tender breasts. We're ttc and it's annoying not knowing where in your cycle you are. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

This is great to read! I had my mirena removed 3 weeks ago and am trying to get pregnant and wondering if this might be possible already! I had some bleeding a couple of days later-was this day one of my cycle do you know, or just some spotting? I am so anxious to conceive!
Thanks a lot,
Vicster

Hi

Just to let you know, it is possible to get preganat after Merina coil,i had mine removed 4th jan last year, bled pretty bad after and didnt actually get a period until march. I ended up falling on in April of this year. Although i thought the coil was the bee's knees at the time i would not have another one fitted! i didnt realise all the problems that i suffered were due to the 'MERINA' !!

Good luck for those TTC .

Vicster and Karli-Jade,

I had my first proper af five weeks after I had the merina removed. You can get pg immediately. If you had intercourse I think it is anything upto 48 hours before it was removed then the swimmers can still be around so as soon as it is removed your fertility (alledgly!) is returned to normal. CD1 will be your first day of bleeding. I would wait a while and see if your af arrives. If you think that you are PG then do a test to put your mind at rest. Can't remember where I saw this comment but I read somewhere that if you don't know where you are in your cycle then test 18 days after the first time that you had unprotected intercourse, which kind of makes sense really.

I wish you the very best of luck why don't you both come and join us all on the 2ww thread (two week wait). There are lots of ladies who are very helpful and experienced in all areas of ttc.

Goodluck

Hi, I am in same situation - just joined today after reading many stories abour Mirena coil. I have made an appointment to get mine removed tomorrow and will be actively ttc after that. It is really helpful to know that other people have and are going through the same things. I looked quite a bit about the chances of concieving after the Mirena and this was definately the most informative site. I have two other children 7 and 3 so hoping to the complete the family with another. would be good to hear from any others in same situation and also people who have conceived after Mirena.

Me 37, DH 33, DD 9, DD 4, Zak born 15th April - 3 weeks early
