I don't know if you have read my story of the Merina so I have copied it over from the Weight gain a Merina String. This is how I found these forums and I just have to say that I am glad I did. This is quite a lengthy story as I wanted to make sure that all my syptoms/problems were put across and were there to help anyone else!
Here goes! (copied from Merina and Weight Gain thread)
I thought that I was going mad, but now I have read this website it is clear that I am not!!! After the birth of my son in March 2002 I had a copper coil fitted but suffered very heavy bleeding so opted to change for the mirena. I had suffered pre-eclampsia during my pregnancy so at first I thought the aching hands and legs/feet were just due to the fact that I had been so swollen. I also felt very low, had sore boobs, no libido, headaches, very lethargic ALL the time, stomach discomfort, mood swings this list really goes on and on. I was also so low that I continually caught colds and suffered from incredibly bad mouth ulcers. My doctor was not over interested and I just got on with life thinking that it was the aftermath of a bad pregnancy with an emergency c-section at the end of it followed by life with a baby. After all that for some bizarre reason we decided that we wanted another baby!!! I had the mirena removed in June 2003 and my cycle returned to normal and I conceived within two cycles, unfortunately I discovered that I had lost the baby at my twelve week scan. I will not blame this on the mirena as prior to the pregnancy with my son I also lost a baby in the same way so it could just be me with the miscarriage thing. Because I had had two miscarriages (resulting in D&C's) and a bad pregnancy I felt that I had had enough and had the mirena refitted the week after. This was November 2003. In January 2004 I changed doctors my symptoms had become so bad I constantly felt ill. I began to suffer palpitations and the tiredness had become so bad that I was waking from a nights sleep exhausted and then to make things worse I began to suffer from insomnia so I was not only just tired I couldn't even get to sleep. My new doctor took blood tests and it was discovered that I had a really low oestrogen level. After a few months of checking the levels she prescribed me with a low level oestrogen patch to try and kick start my system (by the way I am only 33 years old). This seemed to do the trick and at my last blood test my levels were normal after having stopped the replacement treatment a month before the test. I was still suffering with most of the previously mentioned symptoms but not quite so bad. Then at the end of May (05) for some reason I had a bleed, something which was totally out of the ordinary for me as I had not bled since I had had the Mirena fitted. This was when I found this web site and I am so glad that I did. I was immediately tested for infection and that the coil was still in place both of which were fine. However the more postings I read the more convinced I became that the coil was my problem. I spoke with my husband and showed him this website and it was agreed that I would have it removed, then it hit me like a bolt of lightning that perhaps I was ready to try for another baby (very frightened!!). I had that alien removed from my body ten days ago (June 14th). For once the procedure did not cause any pain whatsoever (shock!) and almost immediately I felt different. My aches have almost completely gone, I have lost 5lbs, my mood has lifted, I am thinking about SEX! Something that I haven't done since having that thing fitted - The miracle contraceptive!! Yes it's so good because you rarely/never have sex. Perhaps it could be marketed towards Britains school girl mums!! I have not bled at all since having it removed I am now waiting to see what occurs so that we can start planning for baby. My husband is looking forward to the practice!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you to all you ladies who have took the time to put their stories on this site if it were not for you I would not be feeling the way I do today. I will let you know how I get on.
Sorry it's long the HRT my doctor put me on is called Evorel 25 which is a patch you replace twice a week. I had all the symptoms of early menopause and was very concerned fortunately everything seems to have balanced out again (Fingerscrossed a 1000 times!).
I hope your results work out okay let us know.
Babydust by the bucketfull.
