Hello to all. I am Touchwood.

me - 34
Dh - 33
DS - 3
TTC 2 months
Merina Coil removed 14th June 2005
Have had two af's since removal first AF came 5 weeks after removal
Two previous mc's (1 before DS and merina, 1 after ds and removal of merina. Then had merina refitted).
Had lots of problems with merina including very low oestrogen levels and had to have hormone replacement. Am feeling generally well and am taking pg vitamins. Have started to temp and about to invest in first opk today. There are three of us on the TTC string who have all had the merina removed recently (Touchwood, JayJay and J). I hope that I can speak for all of us saying that we don't really know what the future holds for us.

I would like to hear from anyone who has conceived after having had the Merina removed - Good and bad stories so at least I know where I stand.

Many thanks and loads of babydust to all.

Touchwood XX

Hi touchwood,
Ihave just done a search on the net for pregnancy after merina and I have got to say it doesn't look good aparently people are now being told it could take up a year. Here is another forum about it.

JayJay - Well we will just have to stay positive won't we. The Merina web site says you can get pregnant immediately and it only took me two cycles last time. SO I AM GOING TO REMAIN POSITIVE[Big Grin] I will not let that little bit of hormone releasing plastic have anymore of a detrimental effect on my life than it already has had [}Smiler] I will continue to go to the gym, watching what I eat then I am going to POAS (OPK) and fingers crossed will POAS again two weeks later and will get a + result. If not then I may try some other methods that the ladies on the TTC string suggest. I am sure we can succeed [Big Grin]

Catch you later

I had mine removed in March/April and have been ttc #3 ever since. I caught within one month for DD and DS so who knows what this coil has done. I did read on the website from the makers of the Mirena that 90% of women will conceive within 24 months!!! What happened to fertility returning to normal straight after removal.

Hi Girls,

Room for another one?

I am up late as I can't sleep. Tomorrow, I get the results of my oestrogen tests. This is when we find out if the hot flushes are due to early menopause (I am 30) or were down to the evil Mirena, which was removed in mid June.

Have never felt the need for a child this strongly before. Poor hubby isn't entirely ready, but is bravely saying that if it's early menopause then we will start trying. Still, after 7 yrs of marriage he has done well to escape the nappies for so long.

Best of luck with the babymaking!

Paggie,

Welcome there's always room for more, it's just a sad state of affairs that there are so many of us that have had real problems with the Miracle contraceptive called the Merina [}Smiler][Frowner!][xx(][Frowner]

I don't know if you have read my story of the Merina so I have copied it over from the Weight gain a Merina String. This is how I found these forums and I just have to say that I am glad I did. This is quite a lengthy story as I wanted to make sure that all my syptoms/problems were put across and were there to help anyone else!

Here goes! (copied from Merina and Weight Gain thread)

I thought that I was going mad, but now I have read this website it is clear that I am not!!! After the birth of my son in March 2002 I had a copper coil fitted but suffered very heavy bleeding so opted to change for the mirena. I had suffered pre-eclampsia during my pregnancy so at first I thought the aching hands and legs/feet were just due to the fact that I had been so swollen. I also felt very low, had sore boobs, no libido, headaches, very lethargic ALL the time, stomach discomfort, mood swings this list really goes on and on. I was also so low that I continually caught colds and suffered from incredibly bad mouth ulcers. My doctor was not over interested and I just got on with life thinking that it was the aftermath of a bad pregnancy with an emergency c-section at the end of it followed by life with a baby. After all that for some bizarre reason we decided that we wanted another baby!!! I had the mirena removed in June 2003 and my cycle returned to normal and I conceived within two cycles, unfortunately I discovered that I had lost the baby at my twelve week scan. I will not blame this on the mirena as prior to the pregnancy with my son I also lost a baby in the same way so it could just be me with the miscarriage thing. Because I had had two miscarriages (resulting in D&C's) and a bad pregnancy I felt that I had had enough and had the mirena refitted the week after. This was November 2003. In January 2004 I changed doctors my symptoms had become so bad I constantly felt ill. I began to suffer palpitations and the tiredness had become so bad that I was waking from a nights sleep exhausted and then to make things worse I began to suffer from insomnia so I was not only just tired I couldn't even get to sleep. My new doctor took blood tests and it was discovered that I had a really low oestrogen level. After a few months of checking the levels she prescribed me with a low level oestrogen patch to try and kick start my system (by the way I am only 33 years old). This seemed to do the trick and at my last blood test my levels were normal after having stopped the replacement treatment a month before the test. I was still suffering with most of the previously mentioned symptoms but not quite so bad. Then at the end of May (05) for some reason I had a bleed, something which was totally out of the ordinary for me as I had not bled since I had had the Mirena fitted. This was when I found this web site and I am so glad that I did. I was immediately tested for infection and that the coil was still in place both of which were fine. However the more postings I read the more convinced I became that the coil was my problem. I spoke with my husband and showed him this website and it was agreed that I would have it removed, then it hit me like a bolt of lightning that perhaps I was ready to try for another baby (very frightened!!). I had that alien removed from my body ten days ago (June 14th). For once the procedure did not cause any pain whatsoever (shock!) and almost immediately I felt different. My aches have almost completely gone, I have lost 5lbs, my mood has lifted, I am thinking about SEX! Something that I haven't done since having that thing fitted - The miracle contraceptive!! Yes it's so good because you rarely/never have sex. Perhaps it could be marketed towards Britains school girl mums!! I have not bled at all since having it removed I am now waiting to see what occurs so that we can start planning for baby. My husband is looking forward to the practice!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you to all you ladies who have took the time to put their stories on this site if it were not for you I would not be feeling the way I do today. I will let you know how I get on.

Sorry it's long the HRT my doctor put me on is called Evorel 25 which is a patch you replace twice a week. I had all the symptoms of early menopause and was very concerned fortunately everything seems to have balanced out again (Fingerscrossed a 1000 times!).

I hope your results work out okay let us know.

Babydust by the bucketfull.

Well, I had the results. Miraculously, the reading was double what it was when I had the coil in, so rather than being pre-menopausal, I'm actually fine!! The doctor said that the mirena can cause oestrogen levels to change. I thought it must have been the mirena as the hot sweats and suicidal thoughts have disappeared since it came out. Unfortunately I haven't lost any weight, but I have been baking for Britain (an odd form of nesting instinct)?

On the downside, relieved hubby has suggested that we wait until we've sold up and moved before trying for a baby. Damn. Damn. Damn.

Thanks for posting your message Touchwood. I had lots of the same symptoms as you and it's nice to know we're all in this together.

Hi Everyone

Thanks for the advice good to know that it is possible to conceve after merina. Toochwood you were right I was feeling a bit down about it as I got PG straight away with both my boys so was getting a bit worried.
Paggie - I had hot flushes in the first 6 months of having merina, Felt like I was going through the change (at 26) yuk![xx(]
We seem to have our own little TTC thread going, which is good for me as the way my hormones are at the moment I need all the cheering up I can get, and these threads do cheer me up.
Babydust to all
