HI, I hope you don't mind me posting on your thread. My dh and I are trying to convceive at hte moment for baby no. 2. I have a wonderful son but would really love a daughter. I think we will only have two children, due to finance and space etc.

I've been reading a book "choose the sex of your baby" which tells you to do all sorts of things from temperature taking, timing, douching with vinagar!! to name but a few. I was just wondering whether any of you tried any of the above?

Thanks and good luck with your pregnancies.

Hi Emma

I used that method to try and conceive a girl this time round but still ended up with a boy - so I don't think that it works for everyone.

Don't know whether the fact that my DH is one of 4 boys makes any difference - although his brother has a daughter.

Good luck if you decide to go for it.

Jack

Hi Emma

Was delighted to find this thread as I'm also reading "choose the sex of your baby".
We have 3 boys and Jack and you other lovely ladies I know exactly what u mean bout the dissapointment.
When pregnant with no 3 was so upset when we found out another boy at 20week scan. Even DH a little upset but quickly bounced back as pregnancy went on, and obviously we adore our 3 boys. Makes for a noisy house though!! They are all very close though in between fisticuffs!!
Had no sympathy from my doctor though - he's one of 7 boys and according to him his Mother never missed not having a girl. Didn't want to point out that she was hardly going to say otherwise!!! lol.
Had Mirena out Jan and followed book's advice this month which is my first proper cycle.
Emma we too used a 5 day cut off this mth but think that maybe next month will move up to 3 day.Am not douching though..what's that like!
I'm also using Clearblue Fertility Monitor so it showed LH surge + oestrogen rise days 15 and 16. Last bd was 4 days before.
Am now on day 28 with good symptoms - nausea, soooore b**bies, metal mouth etc but 3 BFN's so far so not holding out much hope.
Musswells delighted to hear this method worked for you + good luck this time round. I know you're due any day now.
Jack sorry to hear it didn't work for u.
Don't know how we'll feel if we have another boy.
This is defo our last chance so concerned we'll be dissapointed again and then u feel so guilty too.
Emma if u read this let me know how ure getting on. Where are u in your cycle?
Babydust to all you girls

Hi Insomniac

yes due in 14 days as 38 weeks today, but when I saw the midwife yesterday she said I could go into labour at any point. So will see what happens.

Yes it worked for me and I got my girl, now 2.5 years. This one though is a boy so we are told. It took a while to get my head round it but now I have and I have bought some lovely things for him. If they got it wrong then the baby will have nothing to wear lol.

My cousin tried the book too and she had two boys alraedy, and she too had a girl so for all you trying out there the book is worth a go, worked for me and others I know aswell.

Good Luck. xxx

Hi Muswells

How exciting for you, due any time now.
I know how the last month can drag...packing and unpacking the hospital bag!!
I'm sure it was strange to learn ure having a boy, but you'll be delighted I'm sure. I have such a close bond with my 3 boys.
Nice age gap too - your children are sure to be close pals.
Don't worry if your daughter acts a little strange though.
Similar age gap between my older two, and when our second was born, the eldest wanted to go back in nappies and reverted to a lot of baby like behaviour. Think he felt a little put out at first poor thing!
He soon got over it though.
All the very best Musswells and don't worry 2nd labour is usually a lot easier and shorter - well most of the time!!

Oh getting lots of cramps this evening so darn AF must be on her way[Frowner][Frowner].

Hi Insomniac

I am expecting my 3rd baby lol in 13 days not my second. tee hee.[Big Grin]

I hope AF don't get you.

I have been having contractions since 4 am this morning, but nothing much is happening, so not sure if today will be the day, or tonight maybe. I just feel shattered as I only had 2 hours sleep![Frowner] I called the hospital as I have been through it twice before I thought well I am in pain but coping, they said come in if pain gets worse of contractions get closer or waters break. I have 13 days to go and the other two did not come this early though I was having contractions on and off for 2 weeks before. I am so bloody uncomfortable now I just want it all over. I keep getting very upset.

Hope that you are well

Love
Lorraine. xx

Ah Muswell u poor thing. I know how u feel.
My boys all came bout a week early with contractions on and off for couple of days. I know just how tiring it is...waking with contractions, getting to hospital to be told only 1 or 2cm's then it stops so home again.
Try not to get too upset. He'll make an appearance soon.
Last pregnancy went private, so was induced in the end coz had been 2cm's for days with no joy.Had not gone overdue or anything, in fact induced 1 wk early. Not that I'd recommend that for everyone.
Wow you're 3rd, you'll be busy!!
Try and sleep tonight if you're still home - course u might be in the hospital now!
Be thinking of you and sending u good pushing vibes!!

Forgot to say dreaded AF arrived this evening[Frowner][Frowner][Frowner][Frowner]

Gonna get diary out and mark dates for serious Bding this month, with cutoff about 3/4 days this time.
We're trying for a girl this time, so according to the book gotta leave a gap before ovulation.
Might even try the vinegar douching this month [:0][:0][:0]
Anyone try it before?

Hi Insomniac

Just thought I would say good luck in your attempts and I really hope that you get a girl.

I didn't douch with vinegar but I did follow all the advice in choosing the sex the natural way book - mainly timing. I conceived this baby at 11 days - all my other were at conception around 15 days - but it is still a boy!!!

I don't in anyway want to put you off but thought it would be useful to let you know. I like you was very upset when I found out at 20 wks that no. 3 was a boy. (he was a bit of an accident so wasn't following any kind of plan!!). I like you bounced back fairly quickly and think I bonded better with Luke because of those initial feelings.

Because of this I thought I'd have no problems if they told me this one was a boy and thought that if it is as lovely as the 3 I've got already then I'm very lucky. I didn't feel like this and have struggled to come to terms with the baby - which I am just beginning to I'm 28/29 wks. I have seen a maternity counsellor at the hospital who has been very helpful and I am starting to look forward to it.

Sorry, I don't mean sound really depressing but I was convinced it would work.

After all that good luck and let me know how you get on

Love

Jack

Hi Jack

U poor love.
I REALLY REALLY feel for you[Frowner][Frowner]
I'm sure it's harder to deal with when you've been working soo hard to conceive a girl. If you conceive accidentally u tend not to get ur hopes up, but the fact that you've followed the advice on Bd'ing well in advance of Ov u must of been quite confident on getting ur girl. Day 11 sounds like a really sensible cut off point. In a way the book probably gives u a lot of hope and it can be quite a fall if things don't work out.

Do u think that u ovulated earlier that mth? Have u been charting your temps or checking cm? Did u and your DH work at lowering his sperm count by Bding often?
Sorry, I hope u don't mind all the questions and it might be too painful for u to talk about it now.

I really really worry about how I'll feel if we conceive another boy, which makes me feel so guilty.
I'm so glad u took the time to give me advice and I think that we shall continue with the girl plan, not hold out too much hope and sure if it happens it'll be a bonus.
The Maternity Counsellor sounds like a great idea as it's hard to confide in friends and family.
I felt sooo ashamed of myself for being upset about having another boy last time. After all, it's naturally a time of great excitement and there are so many lovely girls out there who have great diff conceiving at all.

Wishing u all the very best for the pregnancy and I'm sure you'll have a wonderful relationship with your son [Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin].
Let me know how u get on.

Love,
Elainexx

Hi Elaine

Thanks for the reply - I'm happy to talk about things now - I think I am coming to terms with it and it is actually nice to know that you feel the same way about wanting a daughter - it is very difficult talking to others about it when actually we are both very lucky to have all the boys we've got!! I certainly don't love my boys any less but still long for a girl - oh well!!!

We followed the book closely. I took my temperature for a few months but also realised that other symptoms at ovulation, mucus etc were strong so went with them as well. I took vitamins for a girl and changed my diet slightly, but not completely. Of course we tried lowering the sperm count - the fun bit of trying for a girl!!

As far as I could see I ovulated on day 14/15 and generally the scans agreed with this. I have read since that some men have a greater ration of male sperm - could have something to do with it? Also when chatting to my community midwife she says she has a friend with 4 boys who tried everything for a girl - she is now going for sperm sorting.

Anyway after all my bleakness I really hope it works for you - keep in touch and let me know.

Good luck

Love
Jack

I too am a mum of two boys- and would love a daughter- not very PC but can't help it. Is the book you are talking about based on Dr Shettles' research?
