I have a friend who had an ectopic pregnancy around 7 years ago. She had 2 full term, live births prior to this happening.

The ectopic pregnancy required her to have one fallopian tube removed. They are now planning a further pregnancy. After quite a long wait, she became pregnant, a uterine pregnancy, but sadly, at around 6 weeks, miscarried.

Does anyone know what the incidence of miscarriage is for women following ectopic and salpingectomy? Also, whether the incidence of miscarriage recurring in any further pregnancies is any higher for women within this group. Thanks.

hello,
don't normally post on this thread but, i have recently had and ectopic (feb 08) and found a really good website called the ectopic pregnancy trust which has a good forum, very supportive and a good FAQ section she may find this helpful.. as far as i know you have the same chance of miscarriage after ectopic as anyone else but i am sure if she posts on the forum someone will be able to give her some advice, they really are a nice friendly bunch.

Hi Claire
Thanks so much for your reply, very much appreciated.

I too have suffered an ectopic pregnancy (which incidentally is how I met up with the friend about whom I have posted on here, so that is the one and only good thing to come out of it).

I did spend a lot of time corresponding with ladies at the time, plus the staff of EPT, and I too found that they were very good, supportive and understanding.

My ectopic was Sept 04, after having 3 perfectly healthy pregnancies and live healthy births.

The EP left me devastated, but I was one who was very, very fortunate to go on, very soon afterwards, to conceive again, although I was minus my left tube. I now have 4 children, and my family is complete, I hope, more than anything that if it is your wish to conceive again, then it happens as easily for you, as it did for me.

Will try the EPT site again with my question, and see if I can shed any light on this for my friend. Awful situation for her.

Thanks again for your reply. Very kind of you.
Caroline

Thanks for that. So sorry to hear about both your losses, difficult to get through isn't it, but well done with the last pregnancy, lovely news.

Thankyou both for your kind wishes... it was a really traumatic experience.. i have a 5year old DD but have been ttc no 2 for over 3 years and had surgery on my tube last year as it was not connected, this was the ectopic side.. they managed to save the tube but i think it is badly damaged i also have mild endometriosis and lots of adhesions which have been divided last year and this year dueing the lap to remove the pregnancy.... i would love to have another baby and it is my biggest wish but i don't know whether i will have one naturally or otherwise.. i am trying to remain optimistic.. it is nice to know that you have both gone onto to have healthy babies after all you have been through..
CT I wish your friend luck and baby dust.
