Hi Ladies

I've just come out of hospital and after speaking with the girls on my thread (nov) they thought it maight be a good idea to share this with you.

I am getting over pnemonia, which started off as a cold, then turned into a secondary infection then went to my lungs. However, I'm one of these eople who put a stiff upper lip on, and try to see myself through it.

However after speaking to the doctors and midwifes my symptoms were very similar to a life threatening condition which is common in pregnancy known as an embolism (sorry about the spelling)

I had a really nasty cough and was coughing up blood
Had pain in my chest and shortness of breath
had some swelling in my ankles

It is soo often over looked as my GP did exactly that, and I was left without sufficient treatment for 2 weeks, it was only when I was admitted to hospital that I had all the essential checks done to establish what was the cause of my symptoms.

Just thought I'd share this with you and hope that it may be of use to someone if they are having similar symptoms to stand up to their doctor and not be satisified by being told by their GP to go home and take some paracetamol..

maybe

Hi Maybe

I'm so sorry to hear about your illness and hope you get well soon. I must say you are very very lucky as this is what happened to my colleague at work (although she wasn't pregnant!) and the doctor's were not able to find the course which led to her sudden death only 4 weeks after falling ill [Frowner]

Take care

Becky

Blimey Maybe! I'm glad you're ok and on the mend now. I haven't been reading the Nov thread, I must admit, so I didn't know you were unwell.

I hope you are feeling better now.

Maybe, I'm glad you are feeling better & thanks for the info.

Last year I was admitted to hospital with a suspected DVT, same symptoms with the chest pains, leg swelling & pains in the calf. I think its the same thing just the blood clot is in the leg & travels rather than the lung - I was cleared after some tests & was told it was just water retention but I've been keeping a close eye for the same symptoms as I'm told it happens a lot in pregnancy.

If your doctor tries to fob you off (like mine did last year until I could barely walk) go to A&E & get a second opinion - its not worth the risk esp with a lil alien on the way! It seems so many doctors can't be bothered to listen to you these days let alone give you any treatment you may need!
