I am currently pregnant with my 4th child. I had a normal delivery with the first but had to have ceasarians with the next 2 due to placenta previa. Although I have no medical condition with this one I am being advised to have another ceasarian due to the previous 2. Would love to hear from anyone who has had a normal delivery after 2 or more ceasarians

Hi Jack

I too have had 2 sections and have looked into having a vaginal birth. I have decided it is not worth the risk, it is possible after 1 but not 2. I am due to have my 3rd section in June.

Hi, sorry I didn't see this thread earlier.

I'm currently not quite 35 weeks with number 2, I had a c section with my first and have been adament I want to try for a vbac with this one.

At the moment i'm measuring about 3 weeks ahead of my dates, I have an appointment with the consultant on the 6th Feb but the midwife has warned me a vbac might not be possible due to the size of the baby. I'm still hopeful though.

How far along are you? It would be interesting to discuss the different advice etc we are given.

Hi,hope you dont mind me putting my bit in,[Wink]

I had to have an emergancy c-section with my now 4yr old son kai,due to failure to progress.I had been in labour for 48hrs and had only reached 6cm dialated,so they rushed me down theatre,[Frowner]
I then pushed for a normal birth with my now 20mth old son ciaran, which i got,it was a long 18hrs but well worth it,[Big Grin]
my hospital gave me a membrain sweep at 4days past my due date which did the trick as the next night i went into labour, but did say that if it didn't they wanted me to go the full 14days over to give me the best chance of having a vbac, because if they induced me it would lower my chances of a normal delivery,

hope you all get what you want when your time comes, love kelly xxxxx[Wink]

Hi all

Nice to know that some of you have managed it!

I am confused as would love a normal birth but am being advised against. I have asked for stats on how many manage VBAC but as the hospital wouldn't do it they have non!

Good luck with all your pregnancies. Jack

i all. I had an emergancy section with my first son and was determind to have a natural delivery with my second. I went into labour with my second and everything went wrong, becuase of the rush I had to have a general and wasnt awake for the birth [Frowner], so this time I am booked for a elective section.

Although I believe it is possible to have a natural birth after a section I dont want to chance having to have a general anaestic again and would rather have everything planned. So I'm booked in for my section on Friday! [Smiler][Big Grin]

Good Luck.

snowrose,
i think given your situation i would also book an elective section.
dont get me wrong i screamed and begged 4 1 during labour with our 2nd but after a long talk with my consultant who said to give it a few more hour as i'd reached 6cm already with no pain relief i decided to give it a go just to see what happened.
any idea what your having[?]
good luck for friday let us no when you have had you lil bundle of joy,[Wink][Big Grin][Smiler]

Snowrose... do you mind me asking... were your babies back to back or were you just not progressing ok, or...? I had an emergency c-section with my first after almost 40 hrs of labour. She hadn't dropped at all and I stayed at 4cm until they got the epidural in but then she started having major decelerations so they had to whip her out asap after doing a couple of scalp blood tests. It turned out she was back to back and not going anywhere. I'm almost 8 wks into my 2 preg and seeing my midwife for the 1st time next wk. I think I'd like an elective c-section as I think the way things went last time really affected the length of time it me to bond with my daughter. I was really disappointed not to have had a natural birth, and although in some ways I'd still like to attempt one, I'd feel much more in control just making the decision to have a c-section. Were you advised to have a c-section second time around? I have a feeling my midwife will advise to try for a natural birth unless there are obvious problems.

Summer - My son was back to back too, I got to 10cm but then his head was deflex (tilting back) as well so they whipped me in for an emergency c section.

I'm 35 weeks and still not sure whether to have an elective section or attempt a vbac.

This is quite a good website for reading up on vbac's and assessing the pro's and con's

Thanks Gemma, will have a look. I too was measuring 3 wks ahead of my dates and the midwife, and even the consultant said I was having at least a 9lb-er. She was only 7lb 3oz!
Do you know if it its the norm to let women who have had an emergency c-section to have an elective next time if they request one?

Summer - I think it is the norm yes, it certainly seems to be here (lancashire), if anything i've had more surprised looks when i've told midwives I want to try for a vbac, they all seem to assume if you've had one section you'll automatically have another one.

I'm keeping an open mind now, appointment with the consultant is on the 6th feb so i'll see what they say.

With my first pregnancy my son was in fetal distress and I wasnt even in established labour, so I was determinded to try for a natural birth second time round. ( My first son was 8lb)

i went into labour with my second pregnancy and everything was going well, I got to 8cm and then he got stuck, his heart beat dropped, and I was rushed into theatre. I had to have a general and the next morning the consultant came round to see me said they were also worried about my scar and how it was holding up. (Im glad they didnt tell me that when I was taken to theatre.)

When I was pregnant with the last time, every one presumed I would have a natural birth and not a section, (that was in Somerset), this time I just said from the start I wanted a section. no one seemed to have an opinion either way. (in derbyshire now). (my second was 9lb).

It's funny how procedure differs between health authorities, I would have liked one sympathetic to vbac's, mine just seems to have ignored my thoughts on it from the word go. I've lost count of the times i've told my midwife i'd like to go for one, she still says 'oooh appointment on 6th feb then you'll get a date' every time I see her lol.

Gemma, just out of interest are you're midwives based at a local hospital or a big hospital?
