Bumping up for my July/August girls as it will soon be our turn!
Big Grin
Well, the time has come one again to start thinking about packing my bag as i dont think i will be making it to 40 weeks this time!! Eeker

Just wanted to add my list of what i'll be planning to take!

*Big nightie/t-shirt for labour
*socks? cant say i ever had cold feet in labour- good for soaking up when the waters went tho!
*Big pants for after birth as skimpy ones get dragged down by the weight of the pad in there!!!
*maternity pads or night time pads (thick ones)
*couple of breast feeding bra's (if thats what you plan on doing)
*Breast pads (empty some out into a food bag as the box is bulky and you wont need them all anyway.)
*Change of nightie of pj's (button front or nursing clips if feeding)
*thin dressing gown- not that its cold as it isn't its bl00dy roasting in there!! Just to cover an accidents when going walk-about!
*slippers or flip flops (floors have had many nasty things spilt on them..)
*Toothpaste and toothbrush
*shower gel/body wash but not soap!
*Deodarant
*scrunchie or flannel to wash with
*moisturiser and lip salve as the air is very dry on the ward.
*2 towels, incase one gets messy! and a small hand towel
*camera
*Loose change for phone and list of numbers!
*I took makeup & straighteners as i wanted to look nice going home, but its not for everyone!
*clothes to go home in, remember you will still be quite big! belly doesn't go down straight away!
FOR BABY:
*You may need nappies, cotton wool etc, i know my hospital provides these things but check with yours.
*Same again for bottle feeding, milk is provided in ready made bottles- but we had to take our own soothers, they tag and sterilize them in our nursey though.
*2/3 baby gro's
*2/3 vests
*scratch mits
*outfit for photo/going home in if you like.
*Hat, Cardigan to go home in. (coat depending on weather)
*Blanket for car seat

*Leave car seat in car as midwife has to escort baby to the car and its just a waste of time carting car seat up to ward and back again!

Take an empty carrier bag to put messy things in incase you are staying longer than a day or two so someone can take them home to wash, might be handy to keep a standby carrier bag at home with extra pj's, nightie, pants and bra, maternity pads, as Dh wont probably have his head screwed on from lack of sleep and end up taking your sexy skimpy lingerie in!!!!!

DONT FORGET TO TAKE YOUR MATERNITY NOTES WHEN RUSHING IN! I kept mine in my bag and just took them out for antenatal appointments, that way they were always there and i wouldn't be worrying about where they were on the big day!

It may look a lot but i can get it all in a sports holdall, Not suitcase lol! And i put baby things in the baby/changing bag!
you dont really need 2 seperate bags for labour and after, just put the stuff you need 1st like night shirt for birthing in and pants and pads and one towel on the top,

This is my list feel free to add, change whatever its just to give 1st time mums an idea!

Like someone else said you dont need all the faffy things as you will have gifts, flowers, cards and balloon's and you will need a trailer to take it all home!

Good luck you ladies up next!

hey kirsten!
Dont panic!! lol!
Its up to you when you start packing but i am going to start getting bits together within the next few weeks!
You can never pack too soon but you can always leave it too late! Nobody really knows when they will go, but being prepared wont hurt!

Aww, thanks babyno5..
Hope you have fun packing!!

I just wanted to add aswell, that if you are planning on packing loads of baby toiletries i wouldn't bother as, 1)They are pretty bulky and heavy, 2)You get shampoo, baby wash, wipes etc in your new mum bounty bag straight after the birth, you will have it hanging off the back of your wheelchair when they take you from delivery to ward lol!!!! then you will get another pack when the bounty lady comes around and registers you on her clip board !!
Also not many hospitals encourage using baby wash products and wipes in 1st few weeks as they strip their skin of its natural oils that keep it supple.. they just usually tell you to use water and cotton wool and wipe them down- but wipes are handy for that 1st lovely poo!! Its like tar welded to their botty lol! you will know what i mean when you see it!! Eeker

Good luck!!

Thanks Nic, I was worrying over nothing, I think I have everything packed now.

I will say I found it really useful to have a few snacks in my bag for DH2B when I had DD nearly 2 years as he didn't have time to go and grab something before we went to the hospital. This time round I have packed 3 packets of McCoys crisps aero bars and will make up a bottle of squash before we leave. I also had one of those electric handheld fans, which I found really useful.

I hope this helps.

2 weeks and 5 days to go Eeker

Thought I'd add my two penneth as I packed LOADS and didn't seem to have enough despit going in in the middle of the night and only staying the following night... The maternity pads (you'll go through a TON) take up a load of room in your bag so if you can manage get you partner to bring you more in regular intervals.
Agree with snacks and drinks etc. I didn't eat for virtually a week before bubs was born and then I was STARVING and if its the middle of the night its hard to find much. It was the nicest mars bar and can of sprite I'll ever have!
My bubs was being sick a lot so needed to be changed a lot so we ran out of babygros and vests v quick. Prob a good idea to leave a supply of spares somewhere obvious in the house where your bloke can find them easily!
Oh and make sure they remember your going home clothes! I had mine laid out for him to bring in. However at going home time I just had enough battery on my phone left to send a text to ask him to come and get us. No time to remind him about any clothes. So I went home in the scuzzy jumper and jeans I'd grabbed in the middle of the night to go in with... Needless to say DH had dressed really smartly to bring his firstborn home... I felt like such a gippo lol. All the best to you all x
