Hi everyone [Big Grin]
I have a IUS at the moment. I know that the word Mirena causes a lot of mixed feelings, especially in the TTC, 2WW and pregnancy part of this discussion board but... I have been floating around this site for a few weeks and have noticed that there are quite a few ex IUS ladies on this site.
My husband and I have a daughter (22 months) and plan on having another in a year or so. But I am really concerned at how long it is taking some ex IUSers to get pregnant.
Can anyone give me advice on when I should get this taken out? I can't wait to start TTC but now isn't a good time. [Frowner] How long has everyone been trying??? Or how long did it take to get BFP??? Just so I can get a rough idea. Any advice would be appreciated.
I also would like to say what a wonderful site this is and how great all of the ladies are at supporting everyone through this exciting and aggravating time of TTC and pregnancy.
Hoping to join you soon.
Loads of baby dust for the TTCers and pregnancy fairies to those with bumps.

hi kiwimum,

just a quick reply, i'll come back later.
I would say have it out as soon as possable and take extra precautions, but it will give your body long enough to revcover from the coil.
I had my mirena coil taken out in june this year and i waited seven weeks for my first AF and have been TTC since, now on my 4th month, but there are others on here obviously who have been TTC alot longer.
I would also like to say that there have been some that have got pregnant straight away.
I hope you manage to make a decision.
I'll come back later.
take care

Kiwimum2 - I thought I would be nosey just for a change!

I am from the May thread.

I had the merina coil removed in July and my period arrived exactly 4 weeks after which meant my body had adapted pretty well to the change.

A month later I discovered that I was pregnant and am now 13 weeks.

It can happen quickly for some , it really does depend on how long it takes for your overies to fire up again.

My doctor said that it would take6 months to a year but here i am!

Bubbly is right about having it removed and using other contraception until your ready to start trying.

I wish you all the best

Jen x

Hi
Thanks bubby for your info I'm sure it'll be your turn very soon!!!![8D] and congratulations J - hears to a healthy pregnancy for you and your beanie.
I'm a bit worried about getting it taken out? I had some issues with it but they seam to have come right. I'm so bad at taking extra precautions. And I know that when my DH and I in the "heat" of it all would flag the condoms. But I think that that would be the best bet. Is that what you used??? Or did you just go for a soon as it was out? [:I]
Do you know if we still ovulate with this IUS in?? Do you think I should start temping and stuff even if I'm not trying as such or would that be a waste of time. It looks like it could be fun. After all these years not knowing what my body is doing and when.
Thanks heaps for posting [Big Grin]

Kiwi - I had the merina for 15 months and I found that I still ovulated although I only had a period every 3 months.

When I had my IUS removed I went straight into TTC although some web sites say wait 3 to 6 months I was advised by my doctor that it was perfectly safe to start as soon as it was removed.

I didn't temp as that wasn't what I was used to so I just went with the flow and BD as I would of normally and every now and again around ovulation but when I acutally fell pregnant we didn't BD around ovulation as we were both too tired and here I am 13 weeks pregnant.

I hope this helps

Love Jen x[:X]

Hi Again!

Lol!! you sound like me and dh!! when i had my coil removed it was so i could give my body a few months to get back to normal, so we were gonna be good and not try. Well, like you say heat af the moment!! only a few weeks after having it removed, we where at it and didn't care!! hehe
In my case it is just aswell we started back then in june as we are still trying now. It's so different for each person.
I had mine for three years and had no periods for that time, i have no idea if i was ovulating or not while i had it, but i def am now, as am on third month of charting with ff.
I know that you are worried about having it out now, but i do think if you want to give your body a chance to recover from the coil it's not a bad idea to go for it now and you'll have to be reallt srict with yourselves.
I also think it's not a bad idea to temp aswell as at least you'll know if and when you're ovulating, therefore get an idea of when it's safe to have unprotected sex.
Anyway, i hope that helps, just my views for you, others may have better points of view.
take care,
bubbly x

hello My name is Emma and i have just had my merina coil taken out yesterday and it is little uncomfortable on the first day but today i am fine.
I am hoping to start a family as soon as poosible. From i have been reading it could go either way. I hope i manage to get pregnant soon cause i have endometrious and that decreases my chances of getting pregnant. They did say though that they had caught it in the early stages and it had not affected my tubes. I really hope this is true.
So all i am going to do is just go for it and see what happens.
Em xx

Em - I am from the May thread and as you have probably seen I conceived very quickly after having the merina coil removed, I had it for 15 months, so not that long really and my periods were every three months.

I'm not overally clued up about endometrious.

I'm sure everything will work out fine for you hun.

Sending you all loads of baby dust

Hi everyone

Em- good luck with trying TTCing. I'm sure it will all go accordingly. Let us know how you get along post mirena. I'm interested to know. I hope you are feeling OK after having it out. I've heard that everything can go crazy for the first few months.

j- It's great to know how fast you got pregnant. Hears hoping it's like that for me. Smiler

Bubbly- I've been telling DH about this site and how I should get it taken out now, because i'll need to get by body back into normal mode. I almost feel like doing it because he would be the one how wouldn't want to use the "extra precautions" [Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin] but that would be well cheeky!!! hehehe. Then I could temp etc and seduce him when the time is right aswell!

It so hard to believe how so many of us get pregnant at the drop of hat, when they aren't trying as such. I got pregnant with my DD when I missed a pill one month!!! I'd only been with DH for 3 months when I got my "pleasant surprise" [Razzer] but i'm glad to say that it all worked out. I'm praying that it will be like that next time too.

Anyway i'm sure it's your month this month!! Good luck! Sending Af hexes all the way from The Land Of the Long White Cloud (new zealand)
