Hiya
My son is lactose intolerant it took 12 weeks for him to be diagnosed i tried everything but found the more milk he drank the more pain he seemed to be in....

In the end a new gp agreed to do a stool sample this had to be delivered to my local hospital within an hour of changing him but this was well worth it. please dont delay as this can be so distressing for your daughter, Joel is now on Wysoy which i get on prescription he was referred to a dietitican i only saw her once but as i had researched things she said unless i wanted her help i was doing fine!!! Also contact the helplines on cow & gate, Sma etc they have reciepe booklets etc which they send free of charge.

Good luck with it if you need anymore help please just ask, the other thing you are told to do is as scarlett gets older you are to reintroduce milk & dairy products to her.

take care

Thanks hun. What were Joel's symptoms. Scarlett is coming up to 19 weeks now. First of all she was on cow and gate. Began to projectile vomit. Tried sma gold then aptimil no change. Also had eczema on her face. Changed her to aptimil hungry baby and it changed from vomiting to pooing. Bright green and jelly like. Going all through her clothes literally 4-5 times a day. The smell is rancid, bad wind too. Screaming in pain withing 30-45 mins after a feed. Also has already had 2 chest infections ans has always had a wheezy chest/snotty nose/cough since birth. I'm so confused xxxxxxxx

hi karli-jade

Slightly different to lactose intollerant but my DS is allergic to cows milk. he was BF for 1st 6 months but one day just wouldn't settle and so i thought i'd give him a top up with formula. He was about 3 months old. He drank it fine (it was only 2oz i gave him) but within minutes became really distressed, was wheezing, coughing, and came out in a horrid red rash all over his body. His ears also swelled up and he was gasping for breath like he couldn't breathe, it was so scary.

I took him to the hospital and it turns out he'd had an Anaphylactic shock to the milk, similar to what a person with a nut allergy may have. He was given anti histimines and eventually recovered. I continued BF him, and then when i stopped he was perscribed Wysoy soya milk, which he still has now.

Thankfully he's not as 'allergic' now as he was, the reaction he has to milk has decreased as he's got older. Now if he has anything with cows milk in he just gets a rash.

It may be a coincidence but he's had eczema pretty much since birth, he has a very rare type called discoid eczema. apparently eczema is connected with lactose intollerance/milk allergies and also asthma.

doctors seem to be very hesitant in diagnosing lactose intollerance for some reason, although it's getting more and more common now. have you spoken to yours already, or your HV maybe? i believe wysoy is avaliable to buy now in Tescos, you could try her on it if you can't get it perscribed and see if it makes a difference?

hope this helps hun

x
