Hi Cooper I was induced with ds, it's more painful than natural labour and according to my old midwife the usage of pain relief is higher. I was booked in at 10pm, given a gel that had to be placed at the opening of the cervix. I was told to get a good nights sleep, not easy in a strange place with a whopping baby sitting on your bladder!!! The next morning DH was allowed back in and the gel hadn't worked so I was given another dose at 9am. By 3pm my contractions had started. By 6pm I was 6cm dilated so was moved to a delivery suite. Fully dilated at 2pm, pushed for 2 hours, but no joy, the epidural had slowed me down, I was shattered. Had to have episiotomy and forceps delivery. ds was born at 5.13am and weighed 9lb 8oz Good luck, and remember any pain is a distant memory when you are holding that gorgeous baby in your arms!! Kate xxxx

Hiya, Was induced with all 3 of mine, the first they used a drip and it was useless and took forever and i would avoid at all cost!! The other two were the pessary gel, first one,i went in in morning (quite handy to know when it will all happen)at midday a pessary was inserted and placed up behind the cervix, i had nothing happen til about tea time when light contractions started, i did lots of walking round the hospital, they gradually got stronger, i went to delivery ward with strong contractions about 8-9pm and my contractions were doing pretty well dilating me, had a tens machine, and pethedine and lots of gas and air, finally was ready to push by about half 12 midnight and baby was born about 1 in the morning after 20 mins of pushing, it was a lovely birth. (active labour 6 hours) My next again a pessary gel inserted midday, this time nothing happened, i fibbed to midwifes saying it had started so i could get a good nights sleep and not get another gel put in, then about 9pm suddenly my contractions started, very rapid, very intense, by half 9 i wanted to go to delivery ward, i had time for gas and air but nothing else and by midnight she was born, it was really quick and hardly time to catch my breath, more painful than the last but i had less pain releif.(active labour 3 hours) I would not know how painful birth is without being induced, all i know is its the pushing and head crowning that is the worst bit. I prefer to feel what is going on and the epidural i had with my first more or less stopped it all, now i opt for as natural as possible in order to feel getting baby out, you are in more control, i never tore with last two, and to be honest my second was a lovely experience. Hope for the same again in Jan!! Best of luck to you, Pinky xx

hi cooper i was induced at 40+3 because my waters broke (at 1am) but no contractions came. still nothing happening my 10pm that night so wentin2 hospital, was monitered/examined and not even starting to dilate so df was sent home i was given a gel pessary and ut on a ward for the night. in the morning df came back in more monitering (feltlike i was attached to the damn thing the whole time) another examination (ouch!) still nothing happening so was given another pessary and an antibotics drip (cuz of waters being broken so lon ago) at about 11am. STILL nothing happening getting impatient now and scared of impending c-section so went for a walk (finally i was allowed off the moniter)halfway round the hospital bam contractions kicked in big time OMG i hurt had to keep stopping to breathe and barely made it back to the ward. once i got back to the bed the pain was really bad i started panicking and crying no midwives around so df ran and got one. this was about 2pm finally i was 6cm dilated and allowed some pain relief pethadine was the greatest thing ever made the pain bareable i calmed down and was then sent to delivery suite. lots of gas and air once i got there df says i was high as a kite more monitering kept going 2 the toilet as i was really parinoid about pooing whe giving birth! fully dilated at about 7pm contractions now on top of each other 3 pushes and 15 mins later ollie was born weighing 7lb 9oz no stitches thankfully. from waters breaking to birth it was 36 hours. my verdict - ouch! but well worth it. wow what a whopping essay! dont b scared hun every labour is different and you never know bubs could come before your induction date. good luck hun. love Karly x
