I am 39 weeks and 3 days pregnant and due to be induced on Friday evening due to having bad Symphasis Pubis Disorder, which has now gone to my back and finding it very difficult to do anything let alone look after my DD.
They are taking me in to be induced on Friday at 7pm and I am absolutely petrified. They won't let DH2B stay after 9pm and will be left on my own and I am so scared that he will not be there in time or the induction doesn't work first time round and I am there for days.
Can anyone that has been induced try and put my mind to rest and share their experiences.

I was took in to be induced with DD as she obviously didn't want to come out so at 12 days that was it!
I had a really good experience wasn't half as bad as id expected. As I was the same as you absolutely petrified. Plus with it being my first I really didn't know what to expect.
I was taken in in the morning though, not sure why some hospitals take you in at night, prob cos they expect nothing will start straight away. So heres my story:-
Arrived at hospital at 10am, put on a monitor to make sure DD was ok. At 11.20am prostin tablet was inserted and I was put back on monitor to make sure everything was ok for 30 mins. MW told me I could still be here on Monday (this was Saturday) I thought nice one just what I wanted to hear haha!! Anyway almost immediately I started with backache but thought it was the effects of the prostin. Between 12 - 3 I was pacing the room with this awful backache so put on tens machine. At 4pm mw examined me and I was 4cm. Everything was a but quick from there and at 6pm started pushing! Ellie was born at 7.15pm same day.
So my experience was really good not too bad which I was so pleased about as I was soooo scared. I too was a bit worried about being left on my own, but if like me you go into labour straight away surely they should let DH stay with you??
I really hope this has helped. Keep your chin up hun everything will be sorted soon and you will be holding your beautiful baby very very soon x x x x

Vicky - Thank you for sharing your story, that has helped me put my mind at rest a bit but still think I will be worrying until it is all over with.
They said that if I am not in established labour within two hours then DH2B has to leave the ward as there will be sleeping mothers and babies so he cannot come back until they agree to take me over to the Delivery Suite, which is horrible, I asked to pay for a private room so that he could stay with me no matter what and they said no they would still not allow him to stay past 9pm. So all of this has put me into a right panic about it all.
Thanks again Vicky, I just hope my birth story is as positive as yours.

Hi Jen, I can totally sympathise with you cos it doesn’t matter what people say, it still hard to put at ease isn’t it. Everything will be over soon and you will be holding bubs! How was your labour with DD. Your body knows what to do this time as its done it before, im sure.
Heres hoping you start straight away so that DH2B can be with you. Rather that or you hold on til the next day when he can return!
I will be stalking the May/June thread even more now to see your news!

Thanks Vicky, it is really hard not to panic about it and I think DH2B is getting really fed up with my constant worrying and just wants bubs out now!
I keep worrying that my body won't respond to the induction and I will be in hospital for 3 days.
I had quite a quick labour with DD and it started about 11am with contractions coming at every 50 minutes, which were really manageable and things started getting closer gradually, then at 7:30pm we got to the hospital and as they were so busy I was left in a room with m DH2B and then after my waters breaking at 9.30pm they finally agreed to examine me and discovered I was 5cm dilated, I had an epidural at 10pm and then they checked me at 11:30pm and I was 10cm dilated so I started pushing at about 12am and had Grace at 12:55am, although it doesn't seem that quick it did feel it at the time.
I have got to go and see the midwife tomorrow and will see if she can do a sweep but the hospital did say that procdures are that midwifes can only do sweeps at 41 weeks, which seems really silly as I will be going into hospital for an induction.
Will keep you posted hun.

Thanks Lorraine. I wish I could come onto MSN but DH2B got rid of it on the comp as he was convinced it was slowing it down, but I think it was more to do with him downloading loads of movies and music as it hasn't made a difference since it has been off, very annoying!
I hope they will give me a sweep tomorrow but my EDD isn't until Saturday and they want to induce me on friday due to my hips and back being so bad that I can't do so much anymore. The midwives are really strict round here and refuse to touch anyone that isn't 41 weeks, which seems a bit ridiculous.
My friend has promised to slam on our front door if DH2B doesn't wake up when I try to call him as he gets so sleepy and would sleep over absolutely anything.
I am getting so nervous about the whole thing and keep thinking something is going to ggo wrong and I am going to be there for days with failed attemps of being induced. I'm sorry to be all doom and gloom but I just can't help it.
How is Adam, Chloe and little Keiran?
Thanks again for replying hun.
Oh and before I forget, thank you so much for the lovely bits you sold me on ebay, they are gorgeous and in perfect condition, I have wrapped them for Grace to open when baby arrives.

Hi, I was induced with DS as he needed surgery. I was 38+6 weeks but as my cervix was favourable and 2cm dilated (due to weeks on braxton hicks) they were able to break my waters. Labour started immediately and I used a birthing ball, tens and gas and air. When I was hooked up to the drip to speed things along I admit it got more intense so I eventually opted for an epidural. I gave birth afer 9hrs of labour and 30 mins of pushing. It was a wonderful experience and I think the only thing different to a spontanious labour was being hooked up to the trace throughout due to the drip.
Good luck for tomorrow, I'm sure you will be fine and it will be a wonderful experience.

AFter waiting an hour to see the midwife I had to go home as I had the tesco shop coming between 12-2 so briefly talked the midwife there and said I was really panicking about the whole thing that
1) My partner has to leave at 9pm 2) It might not work straight away and I could be stuck in there for days and have a daughter to look after
Sadly she did nothing to put my mind at rest and said yes it might not work straight away. I asked if I can make the decision to go home in the morning if it doesn't work as I will not be 42 weeks and she said that I might be able to go home for a while with the view to going back, they must think that I have a 24 hour baby sitter for DD, don't think MIL2B can have her longer than a couple of nights.
I am seriously starting to think I don't want to go in and just let it happen naturally, although I am in pain constantly and now have devoloped joint pain in my hands, I think that being induced could be more trouble that its worth.
What do you all think????

Lorraine - Thanks hun. I will get DH2B to put feedback on for you, I cannot access his ebay, hopefully he will do it soon but he can be a bit slow sometimes.
Crikey the last two years have really flown by, it feels like yesterday when you were expecting Keiran. It sounds as if Chloe and Adam are doing well hun. Has Keiran gone through the terrible two's yet?
Vicky - Thanks hun, I really hope that I am not waiting for days for something to happen, I really think that it will at this rate though!
I will come and post before I leave for the hospital tomorrow evening.
Love to you all

Thanks hun, terrible 2's?????? Nuh he is a good kid he has the odd paddy but soon says sorry after a trip to the naughty step. If he gets too tired then he can be a handful but on the whole not really a problem.
Do not worry babe, its nearly over now and he will soon be in your arms, think positive, and just think, this time next week, you will be wondering why you were worring.
If I don't catch you before, good luck, I can't wait to hear how it all went.
Love Lorraine. xxxxx
