There are many ways to do it. The first is with ovulation kits. You should start using these at about day 10 of your cycle, they will give you an indication of within 72 hours of when you are going to start ovulating.
The second option is to take you temperature. You need to take it every morning before you get out of bed. When your temperature goes up this is a sign that you are going to start ovulating.
The third option is to check you cervical discharge (Sorry for the detail) During your period your cervix is blocked, when you are coming up to ovulation this unblocks and your discharge will chnage to a thin egg white consistency (Sorry Again). When this happens it's the best time to do the BD.
Of course there is always the other option of doing it every few days and just let nature take it's course.
I hope it doesn't take you too long. Have you been on the pill or using any other contraception?
Good Luck Kate

Hi Elle, I personally think that you should not place too much emphasis on getting pregnant straight away, but just enjoy the practice. I worked out on the internet fertility page when I was fertile wrote this on the calander and then put it to the back of my mind. When I did this I was pregnant the second month I tried (daughter now 5). This time it took me about 4 months and I am now 36 weeks pregnant. The only thing I did do around my fertile time, was after sex put a pillow under my bum and put my legs up against the wall for 30 mins. Apparentley the sperm has to travel the distance of swimming the channel. I think the most important thing is to not get obsessed by it, that way you are more relaxed.
GOOD LUCK

We starting trying for a baby a few months ago and had the same questions as you. I came off the pill after having been on it for 12 years and I was woried if I woudl be able to read the signs. However, i found out on my first cycle that I actually get pains around the time I am ovulating. So, now when I know I am about to ovulate we try and have sex about every other day. Apparently you need to give the sperm time to replenish and be of good quality. The egg only lasts for about 24 hours but the sperm can survive for up to 72 hours so this should increase the chances.
We haven't had any success yet, but it is early days yet and we are having lots of fun trying!!!! Try not to worry about it and let nature take its course. Have fun!!!

I was pregnant but unfortuantely suffered a m/c so now trying again. I agree with Walshie that the more you stress about it the more difficult it will be to conceive. Your luckly with you weren't on the pill as it can take a little while to get out of your system.
So I would say all systems go and have fun !!! LOL
