Hi everyone...I know that they say you should wait 6 weeks to have sex again...does anyone know why so long? If you feel ok when is it ok.Is it the orgasm or the act of sex or both? I had a c section 10 days ago.Just wondering if anyone else was wondering or knew?

Hi Sten

Since i gave birth 12 days ago i have been really horny but obviousley cant have sex yet! I think tha u can have sex when u feel its right for u! When i had my DS i waited until i went back on the pill 3 weeks after i had him. This time around i'm gonna do the same and if i feel ok. Cant be having any more babies as the after pains were worse than the actual birth itself!

Take Care.

Vicki

Ask your midwife or doctor. I would wait a while if you have had a c section as its major surgery and you would not want to damage anything, like stitches etc. If they say it ok then have a great time. just be careful, seek advice first.

I agree vicki no more babies for me either.... by the way in that subject, how soon after you give birth do you ovualte, do you ovulate first then have a period or the other way around. I have no idea what my cycle would be, seems when Im not on the pill I get my period every 2 weeks.Im breast feeding full time so maybe I wont?
THe Dh and I did have sex the other night it was nice no baby in the way, but Im havin days now where I bleed and then I dont. My incision feels fine its a little sore but that doesnt get in the way.
I think we will wait again until he has a vasectomy...that way it will be safe.

sorry to butt in...

you can ovulate but not always bleed after pg- sometimes ov twice. full time breast feeding is good contraceptive as should stop you from ovulating but not 100 per cent - can try progesterone only pill (mini pill) - or not doing it at all!

you are advised to avoid sex cos of risk of bleeding - from scar in uterus if c section (which is not properly healed until uterus fully shrunk down i.e 6 weeks afterwards) or from vaginal wounds if natural birth....

am amazed you all have the energy! am still at the BDing stage and i can't be arsed sometimes!! Congrats on the babies xx [Smiler]

Hi Girls,
I didn't know you should wait 6 weeks!! It was only 10 days for us and I had stitches. I guess its up to you really and when you feel ready. If you take it really really easy and be gentle I'm sure it will be ok after couple of weeks. It's sometimes taking the plunge that is the most difficult part, once you've done it once and you feel ok, you'll be well away!!! Good Luck!!
