my iron levels wer 11.9 which were normal.. a bit low..but normal...

so i said..why is he being tested...is it because i have thalessimia trait and she said no because ur asian and we are just screening..i know thalassemia is higer in asians... but i didnt have this test wen expecting DS...and she did start the conversation saying 'because of ur resultts' but then she said my reslults wer fine? im very confused as to WHY he is having to give bld... im not objecting though..its always better to know..i just want to know what happened..did my bloods come back abnomral??? what risks do i pose for lil one?!

anyone else here whose hubby has been tested for being asian/or having weird results?!!

Faiza,

From what I understand you are talking about Thallassemia wghich is a similar blood disorder to Sickle cell?

My neice and her husband had to be both tested ( although for sickle cell) as she is mixed race with one saudi parent and her husband is from Ivory Coast. Her husband carries the trait but she doesn't but in both pregancies she was tested. Her first child carries the trait (Like yourself) but her youngest daughter doesn't carry it.

I think what happens is when both parents carry the trait it can then be passed onto the child and they can develop the full blown condition which is incredibly debilitating and painful when they have an attack so probably they want to test hubby to see if he carries it as well.

Chances are if your eldest doesn't have it then the baby won't either. Why don't you give mid wife a call back and ask her to explain further?

I hope this helps or puts your mind at rest. I imagine you are searching internet so let us know how you get on.

hey hun

sorry no idea on what they are doing,... but you have every right to ring back and speak to someone who can explain it properly. Just tell them you didnt understand what was meant when the midwife called you and you want it explained properly.

Hope someone on here knows but id ring back to put your mind at rest.

thanks sparkel and erica... i did ask the m/w to repeat herself a few times.. she even read the report out to herslef...so i could hear her.. but she seemed very confused herslef and was just acting on instructions sent back from the lab!

thanks though sparkel.. im not even sure if i have the trait as i asked her if i did and she was like...umm..umm..no!! thing is my actual midwife wasnt well wen i went last time so i saw another m/w and this m/w who called was also a stand in m/w as my m/w is still unwell... so there is no familiarity either. i have an antenatal 31st may.. but will get DH to do bloods before then i hope so get some more answers!

thanks for ur replies [Smiler]
