Can anyone tell me if it's ok to continue with my exercise programme? I usually jog somedays, do weights on other days and tennis and kickboxing. Obviously with the kickboxing I would just have to limit it to punching probably but do you think it's ok to continue with exercise in early pregnancy if you're physically feeling up to it?

My m/w told me it's fine to continue with things you already do but stop straight away if you have pain or feel really tired etc and don't try to do any more than you used to. As you go on you'll prob have to reduce stuff like weights to lighter ones but should be fine for now. You might find in a couple of weeks you'll be too knackered (if you're anything like me!) but you may as well continue while you can!

Hi Stacey

I do karate and when I was pregnant, I was told I had to stop all impact type stuff, so any bag work you would have to keep light I would think

good luck!

I know you're busy worrying about POAS right now, but I am answering your question to exhibit PMA!! I'm sure you will get a lovely digital positive tomorrow with FMU!

Anyway, I played netball till 12 weeks and am still playing tennis and running (pathetic running admittedly). I think it helps me to feel like not everything has been taken over by being pg (like not drinking aaaagh).

However, it very much depends on how you feel. Baby is really well protected in there in the first few months.
This link has quite sensible and not overly-cautious advice:

Good luck!

Scal you're the best! Thanks for the PMA!!! I posted a little while ago on the 2WW thread that I finally had a digital BFP today. So that makes 2 bfp digitals (1 yesterday, 1 today) and 2 bfn digitals (1 last night and 1 this morning).

I'm definitely feeling like something is going on in there - kind of crampy type feelings in teh lower abdo (though not like AF), a little queasiness, starving at times, and tired tired tired. I can't stop yawning once it hits the afternoon, and also lower backache.

Thanks for the exercise advice. I will probably continue to kickbox but do punching only and no kicks. And trust me, my beepo is very well protected under all my layers of fat!!! [:I]

I think I just worry that jogging and stuff might dislodge him!

Hi Stacey

I totaly understand where you're coming from. I stopped everything as soon as I got my BFP, even ballroom dancing. Infact I became so paranoid I even worried about driving along bumpy roads.

Try and relax, and don't stop exercising if you don't want to.

Staceyuk - Congratulations on your BFP.

Before I fell pregnant I was doing weights, running, sits ups, press ups, legs lifts & crunches.

Obviously I had to stop the sit ups, press ups, leg lift, crunches and any other ab work.

I was told by the midwife not to carry on running straight away until I was out of the 12 week danger zone.

I was also told not to (under any circumstances) do weights as they can pull on your abs and other muscles, which could cause problems.

Swimming and walking is a great form of exercise whilst pregnant.

Apparently, in some areas they have started pilates for pregnant woman.

I hope this helps a bit hun.

THank you Rachel and J. I am definitely feeling very paranoid!!! This is my first time being pg and I can't help but worry constantly until I get to the 12 week mark and have a scan! I keep thinking any day now AF is going to arrive!!

J, thanks for the advice. I was going to continue to do weight training and pushups and stuff but I think I'll just stick with brisk walking and a splash in the pool as I'm not a great swimmer!!

Stacey - Definately don't do the weights hun as it strains your stomach muscles and if the push ups are not done correctly you could also strain your stomach muscles so it is not worth it hun.

Swimming can be great for your arms so you won't lose so much definition, I have still managed to keep my triceps toned[Big Grin]

You can do squats to keep your legs nice and toned, it is a great way to exercise them and also prepares you for birth as alot of woman like to squat and bounce whilst in labour.

I hope this helps

Love Jen x [:X]
