Hi ladies

Hoping someone out there has experience of or can advise me on something that is on my mind 24/7 at the mo! Im a daily poster on the weigh loss forum as Im on day 115 of the Very Low calorie Diet Lighterlife (500cals a day). I embarked upon the diet after 2 miscarriages and beating myself up/blaming my weight for the losses. I was 15st 7 on feb 14th and now weigh 10st 13lb. Im aiming to get down to 10st! My hub and I could have made babies last thursday and agin last night and Im now in a dilemma about whether to come off this diet or not. Should i come off NOW? Would being on it now IF i am pregnant be very dangerous? Would it be ok to stay on until i do find out Im pregnant?

I wish you all well and really hope that someone can offer me some advice? Gonna make an appointment with doctor but hoping for some insight before I can see him!

Cheers

Nic

Hi Nic

Well done to you for losing all that weight! if you are pregnant then you can be on a low cal diet. You should try eating v healthy foods but don't starve yourself. You should do a home preg test, and if you are preg don't feel bad about putting on a bit of weight again everyone does.
I've got my fingers crossed for you x

Thanks for your support!

to be honest I don't really know what to sudjest, it like what someone on that other thread said. If you are pregnant then you must have more than 500 cals. but if you don't know for sure then it's a bit tricky. If you do stay on the VLCD maybe you should take those vitamin supplements for pregnancy, at then if you are preg the baby will get all the goodness from that?

the same thing happens to loads of women who drink, that fing out they are 2 weeks preg annd realise they were blin drunk the night before, and the babies are fine.

just look after your health & take care

Hi Nic

I was on the Lighter Life diet. I started at 18st 1lbs and got down to around what you are now (I wanted to be 9st 7lbs). Thing is, I started feeling good about myself and sexy again. I came off the diet and maintained my weight and then Christmas we decided to start trying and my little boy is due in September. The only thing is, I've put a lot of the weight on, thankfully not all! I won't be going on the diet again as I now have the confidence to do things alone.

You are of perfect child baring age, but suggest you come off the diet properly first and get used to normal food, as your taste really does change. Consult your doctor or midwife on great foods for fertility and start with thoes. I didn't bother with each food group at a time, I just went strait to meat, salads and fruit.

Good luck [Big Grin]

Hi Nic,

I have been through a similar thing to you and came off the diet when i found out i was PG. I had a look for info about being in ketosis when PG at the time and couldn't find anything. There are rumours on the weight loss forum that it's not the best thing to do but nothing specific about why it might be bad. I suppose they can't test that kind of thing on pregnant women as it would be unethical.

I think that if you're TTC now it would be best to come off SS and start having something in the evenings. When i found out i was PG my LL counsellor spoke to LL and they said that i should slowly start management so that i got out of ketosis so try talking to your counsellor about it. At the time she suggested going in at the week 4 stage but that was before the diet changed at christmas so i don't know if that's still the case.

You have done so well in losing so much, i lost 4 1/2 stone with LL and have found it so liberating, especially now that the skimpier summer clothes are coming out - although DH's not impressed with the cost!!

We are now TTC again as unfortunately i went on to have another 2 m/c's. Am going to the recurrent m/c clinic in 3 weeks to see if they can find a cause for them. Eating again is still a challenge as i haven't quite lost all of those old habits but it is so good not to be such a slave to it and feel far more in control. In an absolutely ideal world i would like to lose another 2 stone but gonna try to do the baby stuff first then think about how to do that in the future.

Good luck with TTC [Wink]

hey ladies

Noo, sorry to hear of your losses. Its traumatic i know and has made me fearful of trying again! I was starting to think Id give up as dealing with them was and still is so difficult! I realised this was pretty selfish so we are up for it again and going with the flow...so to speak!

Well done on your weight loss and good luck on trying again! We must keep in touch and see how things go for us!

I spoke to DR on monday who said get out of K, its not good. Spoke with LLC last nihgt and the lighterlife medical centre who advised me to start at week3 and introduce food types daily and not weekly so in effect you get through management in 10 days instead of 12 weeks! Im gonna stick to week 5 til i know im PG and then continue through to week 12 foods! Feeling positive and still in control..i ahve made myself a poster of foods i can eat and a mini version to take on my shopping trip tonight, may hopefully keep me on track! At WI last night Id lost 2lb this week and thats with eating healthily with a salp up 3 course meal thrown in on sunday!

Wish you love and luck hun!

Oh and my LLC told me that Ketosis is no teh same as keto....somelong word i cant remember..the latter is apparantly the danger zone..but im not taking any risks! potential Babe comes first!

PS..know what you mean about teh shopping bill, Im a clothes-a-holic since going from a size 18/20 to 12/14! loving it!

I just wanted to add that I started the Cambridge sole source yesterday but have today decided to follow the cambridge 1,000 cal plan. It's basically 2 packs a day plus evening meal, fruit and veg.

I had a think about it today and really don't want to be in ketosis if I get pregnant - and whilst I want to lose weight, I'm not prepared to stop TTC just to do so. I am now in teh obese category [Frowner] of my BMI but I will stick with the 1,000 plan, do some gentle exercise and just wait and see waht happens. If I don't get pg this month then at least I'll have another month of trying to get a few more lbs off. I guess any loss is better than nothing!

hi stacey and noo

well, i have just posted on staceyuks thread about vlcd..im very scared..aomeone has talked about miscarriage and having done SS whilst pg, being in K and thinking maybe that caused miscarriage...that K can be very dangerous even in early stages of pg! OMG im scared to death that i have been irresponsible these last couple of weeks whilst i have been um-ing and ah-ing about maybe being pregnant, getting off ss or staying in K. Im now out of K and on management of LL but do you think these last almost 2 weeks can have done any serious damage...OMG!OMG!Help...someone please stop my panic...im now worried that the worry of this may itself cause stress and a potential problem......

thanks for your advice, youre all fab!

Wishing you well

Hugs

Nicx

Nic,

I know it's impossible but do try not to worry. What's done is done and what is important is that you are now eating and no longer in ketosis. You may or may not be pregnant so please try not to worry at this stage.

Even if you are pg, I'm sure that you will be fine as you are now eating healthily.

Hi

Thats an amazing weight loss..congratulations.

I was talking to my MW about weight as I am pg and overweight. I tried LL last year but it was the wrong time for me I did loose 2 stone in just over 3 weeks though and it gave me a boost and I decided to go to WW as I found the food deprevation extremely hard to deal with at that time.

My MW was discussing LL with me and she has lost an amazing 91/2 stone since last April. She showed me her photo ID from before and is inrecocgnisable to what she is like now...I have some packets left over from when I did it, and she told me that it was not recommeneded at all when you are pg as the calorie intake is extremely low and could harm the babies development.

If you really want to have a baby now go for it, you've done sooo well loosing all that weight, but I would stop the LL program for yours and babies health.

good luck

maybe
