Hello everyone!

Just a quickie ..... when you first come off the pill and your cycles are all over the place can you still ovulate or do you only ovulate with a regular cycle?

I came off the pill at the end of December and I've spotted 3 times but not had a proper period yet!!

Thanks very much for any advice xx

Hi Shelly,

I have heard differing answers. Some people I have spoken to have said that yes you can where as other say that you don't ovulate until your periods are back into a regular pattern.

I do know that it can take between 6 months and a year for the pill to work itself out of your system. Some women are luckly enough to fall pregnant in the first couple of months of coming off the pill so this would suggest that you do ovulate straight away yet for some others it takes longer. For me it took 9 months to work itself out of my system and I have been on it for 9 years. How long had you been on the pill for? I would give it another few months and if you still haven't have a period go and see your GP how should be able to do a blood test to check everything is ok.

Good luck and enjoy the practicing.
Kate
