Hi rachael
I too am Rhesus neg!
I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks.
When I had my 1st ERPC (I had to have 2 altogether Frowner ) I was given an anti d injection.
This time I have become preg, so far I have had no problems (touch wood). I have had a routine injection at 28 weeks. The baby blood group will be tested at birth and I will then have another injection if needed then
I am unaware that there is any increase risk for miscarriage as long as you are careful and if you have a bump/bash - to get that anti d injection!
Good luck with getting that BFP - have a read on the internet - I am sure there is a lot of information out there!

hi emily thanks for the advice!! im so sorry hear about you mc. but also cangrats on your little bump now...

ive had a bit of a look and it seems to say that because when you give birth first time round there is a 9 time out of ten yours and your babies blood mix that second time round you body has lready built up antibodies to get rid of the foreign blood. so if you dont find out quick enough 2nd time rround that you body will try to get rid of the foreign bllod if you baby is + and hightens your chance of misscariage.
its all far too confusing for me lol i didnt know if you would have to have more anti d injects or something? dont know why im worrying yet im not pg..... yet!!!Smiler

I can totally understand why you are worrying already! at the end of the day - we want everything to be just perfect!
I will go and dig out some of the leaflets that I have been given by the MW to see if there is any further info on there! Apparently we rhesus negatives make up only 8% of the population! What a bummer!
Will be back shortly - hopefully with some more news

Hi Rachael

Sorry for butting in. I am Rhesus neg too and have had 3 babies no problem. It should only be an issue if you did not have anti-D injection after the birth of you first baby. Whenever something happens that can mix your blood and the babies blood (e.g birth, amniocentesis, etc etc) if the baby is Rh+, your body will start to build up anti-bodies which can, during future pregnancies (if the new pregnancy is also Rh+), attack the baby and cause miscarriage. However, the anti-D destroys all such antibodies and during any pregnancy you should have blood tests taken which will establish your antibody levels. If any antibodies are present, you would have an anti-D injection, but generally nowadays, you get several during the course of the pregnancy anyway if you are Rh-, and more if you have to have something like an amnio. After the baby is born, if it is Rh+, you will have another injection, just to protect any future pregnancies. I was also told when I was expecting Darcey, that if you have any bleeding during pregnancy you should let the midwife know so that you can have another anti-D injection.

So, in short, the fact that you are Rh- and have already had one baby does not in itself increase the risk of miscarriage, it is to do with the level of antibodies that are present in your blood.

That's a very long winded way of saying don't worry about it too much, just tell your midwife at booking that you are RH- and she should schedule your blood tests and injections accordingly.

Good luck with ttc!!

Dug out some leaflets and like Ali has said - there does not appear to be too much to worry about!

Hi Rachel
Im Rhesus neg and just had number 3.
With number 2 I had no problems
With this pregnancy I had to have 2 shots when I had a 2 small bleeds that happened early pregnancy. My ob did blood tests on DP as soon as we knew I was pregnant and he was found to be positive so we were told if ANY bleeding to go to emergency and get the needle, as long as you do that all should be fine.
As said you also get at about 28 weeks regardless of any bleeding.
The problems arise if you bleed and then your body fights it as foreign object but as long as you have the injections if bleed ( i forget the time frame to go get it if bleed )and the 28 week one youll be fine
all the best in ttc
