Can anyone give me some advice with regard to the safest holiday destinations to visit during pregnancy. We are thinking of going to the Caribbean or somewhere in the next 2 months. I am currently 10 weeks pregnant?
Many thanks

When I was 16 weeks pregnant we went to Cyprus. The flight wasn't too long (4-5 hours I think) and when we went (in October) it was warm but not stupidly hot. I guess if you went, say, in May, the weather would be OK then too.
Hope that helps.

I just booked my holiday to Tenerife in May, it is usually hot there in May and the flight is only 4.5hrs. Your not suppose to fly after 28wks. But you can fly up to 32wks (some airlines say 36) only if you have a dr's note. I will be 29wks when I go but my Dr said there is no reason for me not to go and is writing me a letter. I've never been to the Caribbean so i dunno what it's like there but the flight is quite long isn't it? if you go when you are 20wks you will probably feel fine and if this is yr first baby (like me) it will be lovely to have a last holiday as a couple before the baby comes to take over your lifes!!!

Hi Lummny - I went to Jamaica 3 years ago and needed 3 jabs. Hepatitis etc... Unless you've had them before and they are still active in your system which I think is about 10 years, they don't suggest you have them when pregnant and it's probably best you avoid these destinations. The flight was 10 hrs and did me in then so I wouldn't fancy it now I am pregnant.
I've just come back from a week in lanzarote and the weather was lovely and bearable. 25 degrees was about enough for me but it depends what you think you can handle I spose.
European destinations are your safest bet. We wanted to go to Eygpt but I couldn't have the jabs and I thought it best to avoid anyway.
You are safe to travel up to 30 weeks and most airlines will accept you until then. Make sure you get a letter from your doctor in case the airline request it. If you are not showing yet though they wont ask as they wont know. Also take your pregnancy notes and make sure your insurance covers you when you are pregnant.

You don't need jabs for Barbados, the flight is 7.5 hours, it has bags of caribbean charm but the hospitals (heaven forbid that you should need them) are international standard, as are the roads and the airport's ok too. Also long beaches perfect for strolling. Food and hygiene generally impeccable - you can drink the water straight out of the taps. Plus loads to do that doesn't involve drinking (if like me this is one of your first holidays without the pleasure of a few drinkies!!). There is cricket, racing, polo to watch, a brilliant nature reserve and monkey sanctuary, and stacks of great restaurants. Loads of stuff to see in the sea if you like snorkelling and boat trips, and some fantastic and very safe towns and markets to visit. Have I sold it to you yet????????
I just got back from Egypt and I wouldn't go again while pregnant. I spent the whole time using antibac spray on my hands, eating really carefully and still got a hideous tummy bug.
Have a great time wherever you go!

Hi Becky, it may worth checking out places on www.traveldoctor.info as it tells you what vaccines you need.
It says for Barbados you need Diphtheria, Hepatitis A (infectious hepatitis and Tetanus (which you should have unless it's due for a boost). Just ask your doc to be sure.
Loved Jamaica, decided to get married after we had been and then didn't have much holiday left so honeymooned in Scotland - talk about doing it the wrong way round!
