Hi there ladies, I am abit confused about whether I should be taking vitamins? I took the folic acid for the first 3 months but have now stopped. I'm quite tired and wondered if vitamins could help? If so, can you recommend specific ones?
Thanks
Katy

most of the books say you don't need to if eating ok, but i know i am taking clearblue folic acid and pregnancy vitamins. you might be anaemic - could be worth seeing your midwife?
Thanks for that, I was tied in my last pregnancy and not anaemic so could just be one of those things. Can you take Clearblue all the way through the pregnancy? And do you think they're helping you?
Thanks
Katy

Hi I had anemia in both my previuos pregnancies, last time I was really poorly with it. I am now nearly 26 weeks and I am taking Pregnacare and they have iron in plus many other vitamins. They seem to work well. Maybe give them a try, these were recommended to me by the midwife. xx

That's great info, thanks for that. I just remember being so tired when I was PG with my son and I want to do all I can to boost myself abit. I will definitely try Pregnacare, I'll go and get some tomorrow.
Thanks for the advice

i think you can - they don't contain vitamin a or anything. I feel fine actually - too fine, get paranoid about my only symptom being tiredness! (am 6 weeks) oh and slightly sore boobs. Not sure if its the vitamins or not!
Hi there, I wouldn't worry about a lack of symptoms - there's been discussions on here before about some people getting every symptom going and some getting none at all - it doesn't seem ti have an effect on the end result at all. Personally, I've been very lucky and got very little sickness, just very tired. I was exactly the same with my son though. Although at about 6 months I got heartburn from hell and I've had that this time from 10 weeks.

thanks, thats really reassuring...i think people who have lots of symptoms are probably more likely to post on here, so i always end up thinking "whats wrong with me??"...should just be grateful i guess!
I take Pregnacare, a supplement designed for pregnancy and breastfeeding. At least if you are taking it you know you have all the vitamins and minerals your body (and baby!) needs in pregnancy. A few pg women on the site take it too. You can get it in Boots and Holland & Barrett amongst others. A pack has 90 days supply.

I was taking Sanatogen Pro-Natal which can be taken for the whole pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding to give you the right amount of vitamins required. Boots are doing a 3 for 2 on it just now. When I went to my last scan, the Consultant gave me Pregaday to take instead, which only contains folic acid and iron, as it's a twin pregnancy apparently I need more mg of iron.
As for any of you worrying about lack of symptoms, don't. Although I did! I had nothing, no sickness, no tiredness, no going to loo more often, so I got sent for an early scan at 9 weeks, and lo and behold there were two wee beanies!! So nothing to worry about after all. I will be 15 weeks tomorrow and still no symptoms.

I bet there are loads of ladies out there without alot of symptoms. It's no wonder people worry, pregnancy is THE most scary time for a woman. All of these hormones all over the place, I just seem to have no memory and absoltely no energy! It'll all be worth it though, can't wait to see my beanie oat my 5 month scan on 17th Jan - I can find out if it's a girl or a boy then! Hurrah!

When pregnant the body does get depleted of certain vitamins and minerals because the resources you have are being given to the baby for growth and development.
Vit B Complex - varies however it helps in forming red blood cells and nervous system. Vit D - Helps with bones and teeth development. Vit E - Helps maintenance of blood and is an antioxidant. Vit C - maintains healthy tissue and blood cells.
Before taking any supplements speak to your midwife and/or GP. As alot of the above you can get in the foods that you eat. OK?
It is important to be taking iron as it helps you to build up oxygen levels in the blood which is good for baby and this in turn helps you to be less tired.
Happy Pregnancy!!
