Ok, I'm starting to get worried as I just realised my BMI is a whopping 33!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [:0] [Frowner!] [Frowner] [V]

However, I'm not prepared to put off TTC to lose some weight. Has anyone else gotten pregnant at this BMI or being obese and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy or is having a healthy pregnancy at the moment?

I'm just really worried becuase I've put on weight so quickly - about 2 stone in the past 3 months. I'd love to get it off but I'm just now going to focus on healthy eating for TTC as I think that's the most important thing. I just fear getting pg with a BMI of 33. I'm sure I'd be told off by the docs and midwives too. [Frowner]

Hi Stacey,[Smiler]

I had a BMI of 33/34 respectively for both my pregnancies and went on to have 2 healthy sons. I won't lie to you and say it was plain sailing. With both pregnancies I suffered with high blood pressure and was monitored constantly. You will also have to have the glucose tolerance test at 28 weeksish. The worst part was carrying the extra, extra weight. Having said that I did eat for England when I was pregnant (Any excuse!) and put on about 4 stone [:0][:0][:0][:0] It sounds like you are going to be more sensible then I was.

The other thing they don't tell you is that you may not be able to have an epidural because the anethetist can't always find the right spot when you are overweight. They told me this the day before I gave birth! As it so happens I didn't plan on an epidural and had two natural deliveries. It's just worth bearing in mind.

Oh, the other thing is they will want you to have a hospital birth as you will be 'at risk' So if you may have a fight on your hands if you want anything else!

I would like another child but I want to lose some more weight first, just to experience what it is like to be a slim pregnant woman.

Having outlined my experiences, I have to say that I was not made to feel like a leper because I was overweight and the midwives were supportive. At the time my desire for a baby was greater then for waiting until I lost weight!

Feel free to ask away if you need anything and lots of luck trying for a baby - it is so worth anything you go through.

Thank you very much for your reply Christine. I really wanted to be about 11st or below when I get pg but I'm 13.5st now and really don't want to wait a few months to get down to 11st. If it happens naturally that I have to wait because of failing to fall pg then so be it, I will continue to lose weight but for the moment my desire to get pg again following my m/c is greater than my desire to lose weight.

I'm glad you weren't treated like a leper! I feel a bit like a leper at the moment. Self esteem at an all time low as I've put on so much weight recently. I have a bad food addiction and it is a major vice of mine.

I'm currently looking at various diets and trying to find the healthiest one for me. I'm thinking that it might be WW...at least until I fall pg and hten I'll see what happens.

Again, thanks for your help.
xxx

Hi Stacey

I also want to let you know I had a complete m/c around 8 weeks 4.5 years ago, didnt try again until i conceived first attempt at bding with DH and as you know from my previous post i now have my beautiful daughter. i think i worried more cos of my previous m/c.

i followed slimming world before and when preg. its not restrictive at all, more about the right combinations of food.

Thanks Debs and I'm sorry about your m/c but glad you have gone on to have a healthy beautiful dd. I have done SW in the past twice with great success (losing 4st+ each time) however I think I need something a bit more restrictive right now and more calorie controlled but gives me the freedome to eat what I fancy which is why I'm thinking WW might be the way to go at the moment.

I have a BMI of 35 and I am due to have my baby by c-section on monday. The midwife or doctors haven't said a thing to me the only differance is that I had a glucose tolerance test.
Good luck with the TTCing.

Hi Stacey, I fell pregnant when my BMI was 42, and I have a beautiful healthy girl. My BMI is now 31 and am panicking as we may have accidentally conceived on Friday...hearing all the warnings about ketosis is making me worry now as I intended to wait until my period was due before taking a pregnancy test. Anyway, my pregnancy was awful but am sure at your BMI you'd have a good experience, and certainly the baby should be fine. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you x
