Okay, okay, I know it's a bit late, but as gorgeous little Bea has actually settled in her carrycot in the daylight hours I thought I would finally post my birth story!!
Here goes........I woke up to my waters breaking at 8.30am on 9th Oct (day before my due date), poor hubby had just got to work (hour and a half commute!) so had to immediatetly turn round and get the train back! We went to the hospital at 11.30am to get it confirmed that waters had gone, and as no contractions we were sent home as expected with instructions to take my temp every 4 hours, and that if nothing had happened naturally within 24 hours then I would be induced.
At 2pm started to get period type cramps, every 5 mins or so, this continued for an hour but were very bearable, stopped at 3pm, and then started again with a vengeance at 4pm - by 5pm every 4 mins or so and lasting around 45 secs and pretty painful, so off to the hosp.
Basically after that went to every 3 mins or so and then seemed like they didn't stop for a while??!!! Had an internal at 7pm and was 2 to 3cm, and carried on breathing through until around 11pm when I was examined again and was only 4 cm (gutted!), so went onto gas & air, this helped a bit, but by 1am I was in a lot of pain and needed something extra, so decided that an epidural was the way forward!!!
It was fantastic and I was like a different person, eating toast and managing to string a sentence together again!!!
At 2am ws checked again and was nearly 9cm (yay!!) so was told that in 2 hours time I could start pushing - next 2 hours took an eternity but finally started pushing at 4am - could still feel contractions on one side so I knew when to push, but contractions had slowed down a lot, so after 1 and a half hours of pushing I was put on syntocin to speed them up again, after 2 and a hlaf hours of pushing she was still getting stuck (apparently I have a good muscle down there - not anymore I bet!!), and pickles hear rate started to speed up a bit, so extra help and the consultant were called to try ventouse, just the threat of that seemed to do the trick, and as the consultant arrived to discuss the next options out she popped without any extra assistance at 6.43am!!!
Few internal stitches, and kept hearing midwife say 'god.....wow.....I can;t believe it...' and I thought, err, hello what's going on down there, and she said that she expected there to be a lot more 'clearing up to do' down there as I had had to push so hard, but that I had come away fairly unscathed!!!
Little Bea looked perfect, not a scratch or bruise on her, just beautiful, and they helped me to feed straight away!
I was a bit sick from the epidural and birth in general, and a tad tired and dazed, but all in all very happy with it and would deffo do it again a million times to have my lovely little girl!!
Good luck to all you other Mummies to be that read this, and I promise you you'll be fine, and actually most of the time went a lot quicker than I expected and something just kicks in and before you know it it's all over!!!
Right, better go and get dressed now and feed the little one!!!!
Lots of Love
