I have seen in a couple of threads people saying that they had used ultra early HPT. I just wondered where you get them, what they are called and just how early you can test?

Hi Firefly,

Basically the early ones claim you can test upto 4 days before a missed period. However.... Like anything in my opinion they are not 100% reliable so use with caution, you may get a negative and in fact you could be PG or vice versa.

http://www.simplyfertility.com/

http://www.accessdiagnostics.co.uk/

Two relaible online shops you can purchase them from, or you could even try Ebay. There are aslo some in the shops that you can buy, just look on the lables, basically most HPT test at 50ml of the HCG hormone but the ultra early ones claim to test at 10ml.

Hope that helps

Thank you. I am a bit confused as I'm not activley trying (although I really want a baby) and I didn't write down when my period started, however I did do the BD as you gals call it around the days when I believe I was ovulating and now I am doing all the 2WW stuff, symptom spotting and I just want to know but as I have no dates to go by.... I guess I just have to wait a while.

hello firefly!! hehe...getting used to all the abbreviations hey!! well if u r symptom spotting and wana join a bunch of obsessive..i mean lovley gals..hehe...come along to the 2WW thread...ul get loadsa support thru the wait...i presume u wana BFP??

in my opinion..brands wise...First Response is the major shelf brand that claims it can detect pg 4 days ealry (in 69percent of pg women..so b aware of that as sparkelkiss sez)

neways...if u r going to use accessdiagnostics..use this code '2WW' to get a 5percent discount (courtesy of autumn from the 2WW)

neways..come over wen and if u feel ready to join the madhouse!! otherwise loadsa luck and let us know how it goes xxx

Thanx Faiza, there is part of me that really really wants a BFP as I really want to have a baby, before we got married for about nine months we didn't use any protection and then thinking that my body was usless I read that the bigger you are the less fertile you are likley to be. So at over 20 stone!!!!!!!!!!! I decided I should lose the weight before trying. The thing is I am now under 16 1/2 stones which is much better BUT not quite good enough for comfort levels and feeling like I'll be healthy enough to carry a baby (If I'm lucky enough to be able to have them.) The biggest issue is that I am currently following a VLCD which can harm babies when pregnant. So I am stuck in a limbo situation I need to know asap if I am Preggas as I will need to stop the diet imediatley. So as you can see I am torn in two directions. But lets face it either outcome at this point in my life will be OK. I will be 120% exstatic if I am, and if not then I can continue to get this weight off and start trying proper when I'm at target....

Firefly - you must be my kindred spirit! I had a minor panic when i had a BFP at the beginning of dec as was on a VLCD too. I'm doing LL and my counsellor advised me to have one small meal a day of protein and vegetables. Still lost wight during that time too! Unfortunately i went on to have a m/c but i have had one before and have PCOS so i'm sure that it is because of that instead of the VLCD.

As no one is able to do experiments on pregnant women they are not able to formerly test whether being in ketosis is bad for the foetus so they have to say to come off the diet. I had a look for literature and what i found said that they can't see what harm ketosis would do in the short term but in the longer term they couldn't be so sure so would advise not getting pg whilst on a VLCD.

Good luck! When are you going to test??

firefly - congrats on ur weight loss so far...i duno how u gals do it on that VLCD diet (wat does that stand for???) as dont u have to basically NOT eat anything...u jus got drinks and stuff that make up 400kcals a day!! wow!! im struggling and i jus restarted the WW diet...got forst weigh in tomorrow after initial...and id love a weight drop like u gals get...jus havent hot the ability to cut out food!! how have u found the diet??

i know ur concerns regarding the diet and BFP....but as long as u change ur habits wen u find out u hava BFP it shud be minimal effect... and u cant run ur life on the 2WW (feb will be a yr of 2WW for me!!) so i say keep at it until u get that BFP!! o and i think that the only diet u can do wen u r preg is slimming world diet..as that is real sensible neways....no starvation involved...jus loadsa healthy food....but i loive my choc...so couldnt do it!!

i personally wudnt risk VLCD diet..as why strain ur body (esp ur kidneys which are effected during pg and thenu double it by taking urself into ketosis)

also research has shown if u dont properly in pg..as in not enough cals...ur baby more prone to obesity..as wen he arrives and starts living off a NORMAL amount of calories his metabolism wont be used to it..and therefore he put the wieght on....

neways wnough of me and my opinions..i guess noo has read all the papers and stuff..so is better informed..this is jus my opinion

till ur BFP...diet away hun....uve done fab so far...if u get the BFP...id consider putting ur diet on hold...but its ur call xxx

Hi Firefly - whatever you don't but the 1 shop tests. Coz as far as I'm concerned they give false results.

Yeah ok they say you can test from 10DPO, they cost a quid, but I have had two false positives with them last month, and was really building my hjjopes up til I took a clearblue test and it was BFN[Frowner]

Well all I'd say is Clearblue I think is one of the best and Tescos were doinmg a twin pack for 7.99 on offer last week.

Anyway good luck with your BFP and well done with your diet

Baby dust to you

Thanx to you all for your tips and experiences. Noo I wont be testing for a little while I'm trying to be strong and hold off, I've read on some other threads that doing the really early tests can more often than not lead to disapointment with getting BFPs and then either getting AF or then taking other tests later (like you maybebaby[Big Grin]

Just read back my post and Faiza's reply which made me realise that i sounded like i was saying it's OK to be on a VLCD (VLCD) when pregnant. Don't think i made myself clear that if you do get a BFP then you should come off the diet straight away.

I mentioned about adding a meal with protein because this is how you come off the diet because it would be too much for your body to go from eating 500ish cals to 1500 in one go. The important thing is to slowly introduce food so that you get out of ketosis.

Whilst you are pregnant you should definately NOT diet at all. Even though slimming world is supposed to be safe it still doesn't seem right to me. The average eater needs between 200 and 500 cals extra when pregnant and that is what to aim for.

I have tried every diet under the sun in the past, none of which have worked in the long term. I ended up in tears at my GP's saying that i desperately wanted to lose weight but despite the fact that i know crap food is bad for me i couldn't stop over eating. He agreed that i needed cognitive behavior therapy to help me get in control but that there was nothing available on the NHS in Oxfordshire!!

So i looked into what i could pay for and found LL - lose the weight quickly and have CBT in a group session and it is the most amazing experience. It isn't for everyone, it is very hard work but it is a fascinating journey.

Anyway, back off my soap box!! Good luck, i also agree that doing a well known sensitive test is the best thing, Clearblue, Ealry Response or Tescos are all sensitive enough to give you an accurate answer a couple of days before your period is due. Good to find out asap so that you can kick yourself out of ketosis and have a happy healthy pregnancy [Big Grin][Big Grin]

Noo,

Just hijacking this thread a bit, I found this board the same way as you, I was posting on the womens health one while I did LL. I fell pregnant 2 weeks into the diet so I wasn't doing it very long lol.
