Hello. We are currently trying for our second child and we were a bit disappointed to find we were unsuccessful after our first attempt, it worked with our daughter. anyway that's a different matter.

What i really wanted to know is how overweight expecting mums are coping? I'm a size 26 now and so really dread putting on more weight and have been advised to cut back before conceiving, though it's so hard. With my first daughter i had health complications, including eclampsia, which i felt were blamed on my weight, but i can't see that being the only factor.

Has anyone had a healthy pregnancy despite being overweight? And has anyone suffered with severe pre-eclampsia then not had it during the next pregnancy?

I ask a lot of questions, i know, but it would be comforting to hear from others in the same boat. thanks!

Hello,

I would say that weight would be a factor but if you conceived before and were the same weight then you shouldn't have any problem conceiving now. I am overweight as well a size 18 and I had no problems conveiving.

In regards to pre-elcampsia I think it's roughly 30% of all first time mums suffer with it, and I think (And people may have different numbers) that there is a 50/50 chance that you will get it again in your next pregnancy.

Good Luck with your pregnancy

Kate

Hi

I too thought about loosing weight before I became pregnant as many people told me it was easier to loose weight before the baby than after, but I find it very difficult to loose weight, I was size 20 top and 24 bottom, I'm now 26 weeks pregnant and still a 20 on top and now a 26 on the bottom although I have been told that even though I have a decent size bump I look like I've lost weight!!!!! I've found that I haven't eaten as much as I used too.....get full much quicker now and am more into salads, baked potatos and fruit etc!!!!!

Also I too had no problem conceiving I had been off the pill for 3 months when I missed my first period, so I don't think weight is an issue!!!!!!!

Good luck with the trying, let me know how you get on, and try not to worry too much, just enjoy making love!!!!!!

Lisa.

I've just found this forum, and I had to reply. I'm so glad to hear that people who are larger than what most consider the 'norm' are trying to conceive and are being successful!!
Last year I was off of the pill in the hope that I would get pregnant, although my husband and I were not what would be considered as actively trying we were hopefull I would get pregnant but was unsucessfull. We decided in January that maybe my weight was a factor in it so decided to put off trying for a year to see if I could lose weight before starting again. I was a size 26 when we stopped and I have since lost just over a stone in weight and am now a size 24, but it makes me so relieved to know that others about the same size as myself are TTC and being successful so hopefully if I'm not all that sucessful in losing weight and we get our timing a bit better there is hope for us when we start TTC again!

Fimss ;o)

I am a size 24 and we also thought that it would be advisable to lose some weight before we became pregnant. The weight loss was really slow though, some weeks I was eating like a super model (i.e. one beansprout a day!!) and still either not losing or putting on weight. So I thought that if I came off the pill it would help becasue it can make you retain weight. We have had periods without the pill before and nothing has happened.
Doctors have told me I have poly cystic ovaries and would need help to concieve. Anyway 2 weeks afterwards we caught and am now 20 weeks pregnant with our first child.
Although we are excited I am also worried about mine and the babies health. But we've come to the conclusion that what will be will be, so just enjoy each other and it'll happen. These things happen when you least expect it. we had the shock of out lives but couldn't be happier.

As an aside I'd like to ask for someones advise. As I have said I am a size 24, does anyone else find it hard to find maternity clothes that go up to that size. If anyone has any tips or shops that they found good I'd appreciate a pointer. Even my baggy clothes are starting to get tight.

Tracy

Unfortuantely I haven't found anywhere that does maturnity clothes for larger women, what I've had to do is just buy larger sizes for the likes of Evans, they have some really nice clothes and cool for the summer. I've looked everywhere I can think of, but if you hear of anywhere let me know!!!!!

Since the last time I posted a message I have lost 1 stone, due to my size I had to go for another can at 28 weeks so they can measure the baby and make sure she is growing as she should, and I was told she is the right size as to what she should be for how far I am and loosing weight won't hurt her as she'll just feed off me, so you can loose weight whilst being pregnant!!!!

Hope this helps!!!!!!!
