I'm french but I'm living in the UK and I'm treated for infertility in France. I'm on Gonal-F at the moment and I would need to have an ultrasound scan and a blood test (LH/estradiol) at day 12 (which is in about 10 days). I know there are long waiting lists to see specialists but I don't need that. Can a GP prescribe such a blood test and/or ultrasound scans ? Can you think of a way I could have them done so quickly ? Thanks very much for your help.

Hi Cecyle, It may work differently where you are in the UK but here you would go to your GP and they would give you a blood test form and then you just turn up at the hospital blood testing department when needed (you don't need an appointment, you just wait in line. Usually doesn't take long). Not sure about scans, but it may work in a similar way. Best of luck! xxx

Thanks. I asked the GP I saw for another problem two weeks ago, and he even did not understand and know the drug I'm on (Gonal-F). I did not ask him directly if he cold prescribe these, but he told me to go to an infertility clinic. Does anyone know ?
Good luck Cecyle xx

It was very unhelpful indeed. I'll try another GP. It would be great if I could get at least a blood test the way you told me. I'm in Scotland, do you know how it works here ?

I've no idea how it works up there I'm afraid. I really would see another GP and if they can't help you with the blood test and scan, at least get them to point you in the direction of a fertility clinic. Let us know how it goes xxx

I too am in Scotland and my doctor referred me to the infertility clinic at my local hospital. Could you call your local hospital if they have an infertility department and check with them whether or not you need a gp's referral.
I would also get onto your gp again or see another gp and just push them to refer you.
Good luck

I think the GP I saw was fine with referring me but told me to ask the infertility clinic first. I'm gonna do that but I fear it's gonna take a long time to see someone... and I'll probably won't be able to have my blood test and scan this month. Anyway, thanks again.

sorry to butt in - but your gp can order any blood test you need, the best thing to do with the medicine is to take the box in because gonal sounds like the trade name, they will need to see exactly what the drug is to find out what it is known as in the uk. they might be able to prescribe it for you (depending on what it is) but it may be a specialist drug which means you will need referring to the infertility clinic in order to get it in this country.
Try a female GP - sorry to sound sexist but the women are more used to dealing with these issues!
